President Barack Obama wins Florida, topping Romney in final electoral vote tally 332 to 206

Source: Washington Post

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — President Barack Obama was declared the winner of Florida’s 29 electoral votes Saturday, ending a four-day count with a razor-thin margin that narrowly avoided an automatic recount that would have brought back memories of 2000.

No matter the outcome, Obama had already clinched re-election and now has 332 electoral votes to Romney’s 206.

The Florida Secretary of State’s Office said that with almost 100 percent of the vote counted, Obama led Republican challenger Mitt Romney 50 percent to 49.1 percent, a difference of about 74,000 votes. That was over the half-percent margin where a computer recount would have been automatically ordered unless Romney had waived it.

There is a Nov. 16 deadline for overseas and military ballots, but under Florida law, recounts are based on Saturday’s results. Only a handful of overseas and military ballots are believed to remain outstanding.

Imagine what the margin would have been if everyone was able to stand in line for nine hours. Rick Scott has to be quaking in his boots over 2014, if he is not held accountable for this disaster of an election now however you can be assured the lines will be even longer in two years as he will cut back even further on the number of polling places available.

....and he went home on Election night is that he saw Obama was going to win with or without Ohio's measly 20 electoral votes and he knew an investigation would reveal he was flipping votes and he didn't want to go to jail.

It also would keep the myth alive that Ohio is critical for the win. This whole media narrative that "no Republican has won without Ohio" had to be preserved or the money spent in Ohio every four years would dry up.

On election night my fiancee was watching MSNBC and she was in tears as they made it sound like Romney was going to win. they were talking about who would be in various cabinet positions and such when I called her all happy because things were going great from what I was seeing online. As we were on the phone a friend at my place on a laptop said, "Wow!" and she had MSNBC on mute and she said, "It says, 'Obama elected President' on TV." There was a pause and the guy here said, "Obama won!" and everyone cheered.

My fiancee was crying. Since then I've seen several entries online complaining about he way MSNBC covered election night. They kept talking about a Romney win and by comparison regular network NBC had better coverage,

The Justice Department needs a through investigation of Nathan Sproul, Jon Husted, and Rick Scott, Jeff Flake and all the others who worked so hard to steal the election for the GOP. We know the GOP will waste time with the Libyan non-story, (Watch them try to impeach the President over this, I'm very serious; the will try), but this is the real scandal of our times. There are powerful forces working to steal elections and it MUST STOP! Nothing happened to the "November criminals" in 2000 or 2004 and Nathan Sproul was still pulling this shit in 2008 and 2012. As I said on an earlier post, we GOT LUCKY this time Progressives! Mitt Romney was such a fatally flawed candidate that the efforts to steal the election didn't work this time. We may not be so lucky in 2016 pr 2020. DAMMIT; INVESTIGATE THESE TREASONS BASTARDS, not only for justice, but serve notice to others in the future that you will go to jail if you pull this again.

A nearly full-point lead of 74,000 votes is not the same as a (dubious) 527, minuscule fraction of one percent margin.

What, of course, was the same, were the attempts to suppress the vote through knocking voters off the rolls, producing a confusing 12-page (rather than butterfly) ballot, cutting voting time, etc.

But no, 74,000 votes is not really razor thin, when compared to 2000.

when every single vote is counted without delay or fail, military, absentee, all in a unified manner. I like to think my single number is included in those figures rather than a probability that it's one in a few hundred thousand that may or may not be counted. It's takes away the feeling of unity.

I want to know my vote is one of those numbers.

I would like to see a chart showing the number of provisional ballots cast over, say, the last 20 years and what the trend line looks like. In Arizona, for instance, there are over 172,000 provisional ballots not yet counted. That is a huge number of disenfranchised voters. I'm wondering if Arizona this year exceeded the national total from 20 years ago.

An "accuracy continuum" could be established on the basis of this election alone. Nate Silver would be at 100% and Dick Morris would hold down the other end of the spectrum at 0%. Everyone else would be somewhere in-between. For future Karl Rove / Koch Bros. reference, anything approaching a Dick Morris prediction would best be interpreted as a red flag in which potential cash contributions are diverted elsewhere or better yet kept in the bank.
