Bakers’ union on strike against Hostess (twinkies ho ho's cup cakes etc)

Source: Dallas News Com

The tense relationship between Hostess Brands and its second largest union deteriorated further Friday when the bakers’ union said it is going on strike against the bankrupt snack maker, beginning today.

Hostess has said repeatedly a prolonged strike would result in a “rapid” wind down of the company, which has been in bankruptcy court since January.

In a news release issued late Friday, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union called the move”an inspiring display of courage and conviction.”

It was not clear where picket lines have been established. Officials with the union and with Hostess could not be reached for comment.

Tastykakes are now available on the entire East coast, from Maine to Florida. We lived in PA for a year back in 1978, and I became addicted to Tastykakes, and find Hostess and Drake's inedible. Every time we visit my wife's relatives in PA and NJ, we bring back a supply. Now we can just go to the local Hannafords here in Maine. Not the complete selection you can find in the Middle Atlantic states, but it's a start.

Of course, a real bakery, or even some grocery store bakeries, bake better stuff, but if you have a sweet tooth like me, and you like to keep something satisfying around the house, you can't beat the quality and convenience of Tastykakes -

From Indiana:

"We certainly hope that they do not assume we are bluffing. We are not. There are no negotiations underway," said Lance Ignon, a company spokesman.

Back in May, Hostess warned state officials that it might need to shut down its operations in 21 Indiana communities. There are five Hostess locations in Indianapolis alone. That would mean more than 850 people would be out of work.

but I really wish people would not eat this crap.

Since the reality is that people will eat, drink, be merry, and eat this crap, I am on the side of the workers and hope they don't lose their jobs.

Speaking as a reformed Twinkie-eater!
