Syrian rebels root for Romney in hopes of US military intervention
Source: Christian Science Monitor
Seldom do you find Arabs anywhere in the Middle East who have warm feelings about Americas most recent war with Iraq, especially in Syria where many people were actively involved in supporting the Iraqi insurgency.
Yet as Syrias upheaval nears the two-year mark, many of those who are increasingly desperate for a foreign intervention to end the conflict now reference Iraq as a seemingly positive example of why America might decide to help. With an eye on the US elections, they say they hope the party that brought them the Iraq war might also bring America to Syria.
The Republicans prefer using the military. Like Bush, he entered Iraq and Afghanistan. They use the military in all cases so maybe they will try to intervene here, says Mustafa Abu Abdu, who used to be a psychology student before the war. Obama will keep saying that [President Bashar] Assad must stop and that America is sorry about civilian deaths, but he will not do anything to help here.
A number of Syrians like Mr. Abdu say they hope Tuesdays election in America will bring Mitt Romney into the Oval Office because they say he is more likely to change the US policy in favor an intervention in Syria.

(2,966 posts)...if it was Obama getting the endorsement of Arabs. It would be 'evidence' of the president's "Arabness" or "Muslim-ness" or whatever those hypocrites think. Fox News would be on fire.

(13,485 posts)Yahoo and Christian Science Monitor are no friends of the left. I noticed some really low level biased non-journalism in that article.
I was going to make a response based on the report having some possible merit, but just reading though, it's too apparent it can't be trusted so I won't give any credit to it in any form.

Tabatha, who denied that this would ever turn into a Sunni vs Shiia religious war or become a regional conflict, and claimed that the US would never intervene on one side or the other.

(62,276 posts)She didn't understand why I didn't jump on the Syria bandwagon (despite there was a lot of overlap with Libyan supporters). It was an entirely different situation, incomparable. Juan Cole has only reported on Syria from an informative point of view and not a supportive view (though I think initially he wanted to support regime change he's backed down).

(35 posts)Just ask the Iraqis how they feel to be in the same bed as the neocons. Do they know they're trading another Satan for Assad? They'll be fighting the neocons after Assad is gone.
