Reid: ‘Laughable’ For Romney To Say Dems Will Help Him Pass His Agenda

Source: TPM

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rejects Mitt Romney's claim that he'll be a more successfully bipartisan President than Barack Obama has been -- particularly given how controversial his agenda is.

“Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his 'severely conservative' agenda is laughable," he said.

In fact, Mitt Romney’s Tea Party agenda has already been rejected in the Senate. In the past few months, we have voted down many of the major policies that Mitt Romney has run on, from the Ryan plan to end Medicare as we know it, to the Blunt Amendment to deny women access to contraception, to more tax giveaways for millionaires and billionaires, to a draconian spending plan that would gut critical services for seniors and the most vulnerable Americans.

“Mitt Romney has demonstrated that he lacks the courage to stand up to the Tea Party, kowtowing to their demands time and again. There is nothing in Mitt Romney’s record to suggest he would act any differently as president. As governor of Massachusetts, he had a terrible relationship with Democrats, cordoning himself off behind a velvet rope instead of reaching out to build relationships. And in the near-decade that Mitt Romney has spent running for president, both his words and his actions have shown that pleasing the far right is more important to him than working across the aisle.

“Senate Democrats are committed to defending the middle class, and we will do everything in our power to defend them against Mitt Romney’s Tea Party agenda.”

So disappointing that so many Americans can't see when they are being conned.

Obama's character is what stands out here .

There are those who have suggested that Romney is indeed an alien and if we looked inside we would see circuits and not a human being.
If you pull his string, like a chatty patty, he says, "I want to be president", "I want to be president."
He went to find out information from FEMA, like he was already president. They told him to go..................

Why don't citizen's check out what Willard did at Bain Capitol. He made money destroying businesses. Most Americans don't even know the name Bain Capitol.

Republicans did not pass anything for the President because they put party before country. The Democrats will put country before party and will never pass any of the crazy stuff from the far right.

Mitt Romney creeps me out. According to people who know him, he’s been running for president for decades. He’s always wanted to be president. And his entire political career has been conducted with that goal in mind.”

Reid is all talk. He's been completely ineffective and should be replaced as leader. Same goes for Pelosi. We had the presidency and both houses, and congress basically did Jack Shit. All Republicans have to do is threaten filibuster, and he'll bend to them. Republicans would actually make Dems filibuster, but the weak ones like Reid never would bother.

16. TRAITORS (Cantor, Ryan et al)
Fri Nov 2, 2012, 04:38 PM
Nov 2012

Thomm Hartman today called out by the name, Ryan, Cantor, Gingrich, and other senators and congressmen who met with Frank Luntz on Obama's inauguration day and made a pledge to obstruct every economic recovery bill Obama tried to pass. This was the day that the country was losing 800,000 jobs a month, the banking system was frozen and the stock market was at 6,600 (it is now at 13,000).

Because they put their self interests ahead of their pledge to uphold the constitution, Thomm called out by name each individual and labeled them a TRAITOR to the United States, just as they said they were, imitating Al Quida.

He dared anyone one of them or all of them to file a suit against him.

Way to go Thom!!

22. Unfortunately I think the GOP has set the tone for the future.....
Fri Nov 2, 2012, 06:10 PM
Nov 2012

Eventually, but not likely this cycle, the Democrats will be in the minority in the Senate. The GOP's unprecedented use of the filibuster or threat of the filibuster to stop any legislation that passed a Democratically-controlled House and expected to be signed by the President has set the tone. The only way the stimulus and the ACA passed was by treating them as candidates for reconciliation which only required a majority vote.

So I would expect Democratic leaders in the minority in the Senate to do the exact same thing. I cannot endorse a "turn the other cheek" philosophy here. The GOP has to experience the same obstructionism that Obama and his Democrats in Congress experienced. Only then will there possibly be an agreement between both parties to a rational change to the chamber rules.

I realize this means that legislation that might help the nation will be held up...oh wait...if it is the GOP pushing the legislation it cannot possibly help the nation. The only legislation they pass is to strip citizens of their rights such as the right to choose, right to serve our nation, right to marry, etc. Or the legislation is intended to screw the poor and middle classes to give big money to the right.

So actually no I don't think this policy of obstructionism would hurt the nation. It will serve as a firewall against sure and utter destruction from the right.

caring - No true democrat would pass Romney & the republicans elitist corporate bullshit...(besides the blue-dog fucks who are republicans -wolves in sheep's clothing.

Senate Dems would do the same as republicans have done when Dems rightfully tried to pass job bills and fund social programs with our tax dollars -

Romney though would try to pass more tax cuts for the rich deregulate corporations, spend even more trillions on the Pentagon/Military for more wars for corporate profits, suppression of women, gays & minorities...

So Dems would have to do as the republicans did in record breaking amount of times - Filibusterer!
