Romney: Elect Me Or House GOP Will Wreck Economy

Source: TPM

In what his campaign billed as his “closing argument,” Mitt Romney warned Americans that a second term for President Obama would have apocalyptic consequences for the economy in part because his own party would force a debt ceiling disaster.

“Unless we change course, we may well be looking at another recession,” Romney told a crowd in West Allis, Wisconsin.

Romney said that Obama “promised to be a post-partisan president, but he became the most partisan” and that his bitter relations with the House GOP could threaten the economy. As his chief example, he pointed to a crisis created entirely by his own party’s choice — Republican lawmakers’ ongoing threat to reject a debt ceiling increase. Economists warn that a failure to pass such a measure would have immediate and catastrophic consequences for the recovery.

“You know that if the President is re-elected, he will still be unable to work with the people in Congress,” Romney said. “He has ignored them, attacked them, blamed them. The debt ceiling will come up again, and shutdown and default will be threatened, chilling the economy.”

Despite the apocalyptic warnings on the economy, most of the Republican nominee’s speech focused on a more modest argument that as president he would work with both sides to build a stronger economy. He said that, like Obama, “I promise change, but I have a record of achieving it.”

After enduring a four-year temper tantrum, we're being threatened by four more of the same.

Every Dem running for Congress should feature this Romney clip and the National Lampoon poster in their final ads Sun & Mon. Show the Republican Party from their Presidential candidate to their Congressional space wasters as the extortionist they are.
It's just incredible that these obstructionist blackmailers whose narcissistic tantrums brought the country the debt ceiling crisis,
the relentless assaults on everything from women's rights to national security (FEMA,EPA) to even destroying the post office
have not been generically campaigned against as who they all are.

There are no exceptions. All Republican candidates see Romney's threat as their agenda of last resort to double down upon in the House if they llose the Senate and Presidency. Romney's threat is very real and breathtaking blunt. Neither he nor any in his party are even ashamed of thinking and talking like this...that's probably the most frightening thing here.

This is the unabashed closing argument of every Republican candidate ...if you don't do exactly what we want, we're going to destroy this country. There is no negotiating with blackmailers. The Republicans need to be voted out of Washington, they are not for America, they are only for themselves and the billionaires who own them.

even the GOP will have enough of the Tea Party...

You know Mitt, if you had truly become a moderate, you might have taken this one from Obama, just as McCain could have, but sooner or later, the Tea party will be poison.

We wouldn't tolerate this kind of behavior from a street thug, but apparently from republicans it's acceptable.

We have only one source for confirming that it would be while Romney was Governor of Massachuttes.

This report says Romney issued 844 vetoes in his 4 years as Governor and that over 700 of those were overriden. With numbers like this it would suggest that what success that happened during Romney's tenure as Governor happened in spite of him.

And what does it say for reaching across the aisle when he issued 844 vetoes only to see over 700 of them overriden. Oh well, another Romney lie. Yawn.
