Obama To Romney: Don’t Scare Americans Into Voting

Source: TPM

IGOR BOBIC 11:07 AM EDT, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2012

President Obama took Republican challenger Mitt Romney to task on Friday over a widely criticized Jeep ad that tied a planned expansion of Jeep operations in China to the fate of Jeep workers in Ohio.

"The car companies themselves had told Gov. Romney to knock it off!" Obama told supporters in Hilliard, Ohio, after statements by GM and Chrysler officials denounced the ad. "It's hard to runaway from that postiion when you're on videotape saying the words 'let Detroit go bankrupt.'"

"This isn't a game," Obama continued. "You don't scare hard-working Americans just to scare up some votes. That's not what president's being about. That's not leadership."

the entire GOP does it. They fear monger about gun rights being taken away. About an apocalypse if gays get married. About "those people" mooching off of taxpayer dollars in order to get Cadillacs and food stamps. About jobs moving overseas if millionaires and corporations get taxed higher. You name it. It's because they have no policies to run on that are actually beneficial to the majority of Americans.

The President could have added that it is cruel and inhuman. Can anyone see Romney going to a disaster area to console the victims? He would go there and find fault like he did in the UK when he questioned the security arrangements for the summer Olympics.

Then, let me add, today's jobs report is a blockbuster. When you add in adjustments to prior months, today's announcement showed 255,000 job added.

To Gov. Romney and the rest of the GOP, it is a game. They don't see it as "I will do better if we all do better". They see it is as a zero sum game, "If they do better, then I do worse." The GOP wants personal victory so much more than American victory.

There's this GOP ad on Youtube that has a split screen and Obama making a speech in 2008 on one side and him making a 2012 speech in the other. He's says practically the same things in both speeches. "Isn't it time for a change?"

If I had the knowhow and the software, I'd do the same ad, but between the two windows I have a scrolling list of potentially helpful legislation that would have gone to keeping the promises made in 2008, and how they were killed by Repugs.
