China to stop using organs from executed prisoners

Beijing says current transplant sourcing system is both unsavoury and inefficient

China will start phasing out its reliance on organs from executed prisoners for transplants early next year as a new national donation system is implemented, a government-appointed expert has said.

Chinese officials acknowledge that a transplantation system that uses mostly organs from death-row prisoners is neither ethical nor sustainable, Wang Haibo said in an interview in the November edition of the World Health Organisation's journal, Bulletin.

An organ donation system run by the Red Cross Society of China had been piloted for two years in 16 regions and was scheduled to be rolled out nationwide by early 2013, Wang said.

"Now there is consensus among China's transplant community that the new system will relinquish the reliance on organs from executed convicts.

4. A smoke screen

The CCP will make a promise that is in accordance with accepted international requirements, and then completely negate that promise by continuing to do what they have already done. The big difference being that because such promises have been reported, those who do not follow the issue closely assume that they have changed.
Not so. The 2008 Olympic games is a great example of that. Have the promises of improved human rights and press freedom been kept?

Organ harvesting is a lucrative industry in China. People come from all over the world to receive stolen organs. This practice will not stop. The difference will be that executed prisoners have gone through the pathetic legal system, so they can be monitored by external organisations such as Amnesty International. The black market in human organs will simply continue.

6. The Chinese Government HATES competition, thus no black market

The Chinese will do what they have always done, sell the organs to the highest bidder, just now when asked they will say it does NOT occur. Any Black market will be undercut by the Chinese selling the organs themselves. Remember an organ is useless with someone to transplant it AND to give the treatment before and after the transplant. That is where the real money is, that is true in the US when organs are always donated, but to get the organ transplanted takes thousands of dollars.

It had to be at least 20 years ago when I first read of Chinese selling organs from executed prisoners. At first the prisoners were executed then the organs were harvested, but the doctors complained of the quality of the resulting organs. The Chinese then told the Doctors, here are the prisoners to be executed, take the organs and then execute them. From what I have read it is a little bit more slick now, but the pattern remains, it is the doctors who harvest the organs from soon to be executed prisoners and after the organs have been removed, the prisoners is "Executed" (As far as I know, they prisoners may be left on the operating table to die).

Side note: The article mentions other sources for such organs, have the Chinese economy gone so bad that people are willing to SELL their own organs, including organs that they need to stay alive??? If that is the case then they is no need to use the organs of executed prisoners, the poor are that desperate.
