Late Super PAC Ad Buy Urges African Americans In Ohio To Vote Republican; Lincoln Freed The Slaves

In the final days of the campaign in Ohio, the stops have been pulled out in the scramble to eke out a win. And that means one super PAC calling on African Americans to vote against President Obama because Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.

And then there’s the ad which one viewer told TPM is airing in the Columbus area on cable. Our source caught it a couple of times on MSNBC. That ad is the Empower Citizens Network spot that tells African Americans it’s a “lie” that Democrats support them and cites the Emancipation Proclamation as evidence.

Details on Empower Citizens Network are sketchy. It was formed in June, according to its FEC filing, but its quarterly filings in July and October showed the group had neither raised nor spent any money. FEC filings made by the group last week (here and here) show it spending about $98,000 on campaign advertising in Ohio, mostly for newspaper ads.

Documents filed by the group with Time Warner Cable in Ohio identified Akron-area financial planner Bob Warther as the point of contact for Empower Citizens Network. Warther is listed as the group’s treasurer in FEC filings (although it is spelled “Walther” in one letter to the FEC that he signed). Warther’s office referred questions about the super PAC to Lance Davis at Akron-based Universal Marketing Industries. Davis did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

And pay no attention to the fact that Lincoln was a Republican in the days when the GOP was liberal, the Democrats were conservative, and the parties were 180 degrees different from what they are now.

Just focus on 150 years ago, and ignore the all the racism and birtherism that's been thrown by the Republicans at the first black president, a Democrat.

And it's all purely a coincidence that the racist, segregationist south and former confederacy is now the stronghold of the Republicans.

think African Americans are stupid and don't know anything about their History or the History of this country. Everybody knows the Party of Lincoln was in the Midwest out of Illinois and the North. It had nothing to do with the Republican Party of the South. They forget that Lincoln was the Federalist and his Party waged War on the State's Right's Party of the South. Lincoln was the one empowered the Federal Government. White Supremacists wouldn't have anything to do with President Lincoln. Lincoln also had his problems in the North with copperheads that supported the South.

What is more, many African Americans know about the History of Mitt Romney's religion. Nobody likes to mention what the founder of Mitt Romney's religion believed about People of color. We are not talking about someone who just worship his religion but the actual founder of Romney's religion. What is more, most records of the American Civil War reveals Mormons supported the stance of the South because of the belief Blacks were inferior. They also had their Wars with the Indians in Utah. Another fact is nobody in the Mormon religion fought on the side of America in World War II and many supported Hitler's belief of the Aryan Race. Mormons in Nazi Germany did fight for Hitler in the Wermacht. Some that did, came to the United States after the fall of Germany. They were taken in by the Mormon Church. This is one of the reasons Mitt Romney does not want to talk about his religion so much. It would lead into its founding and the History of Mormonism. The only War the Mormons ever fought in America was actually against the United States.
