NBC benefit concert on Friday to aid Sandy victims

(Reuters) NBC will air a concert featuring singers Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Christina Aguilera on Friday to benefit victims of monster storm Sandy, which devastated parts of the U.S. Northeast with flooding and winds this week.
The special will be broadcast on the networks of NBC Universal, and money collected from the program will be donated to the American Red Cross relief efforts, NBC said on its website.
The benefit concert, titled "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together," will be hosted by Today show anchor Matt Lauer, the TV network said. Along with Springsteen, whose songs often center on his upbringing on the New Jersey shore, most of the performers are from areas hard-hit by the storm.
Other performers and appearances will include Billy Joel, Sting, Brian Williams and Jimmy Fallon, NBC said.

(95,337 posts)Look, I know the idea behind them is all good and well-meaning and it's a way to bring the country together to raise funds. HOwever these concerts all come across very staged and a bit too scripted. I'd rather see Bruce & Bon Jovi do a regular concert at the PNC Center and then televise that instead of this Song-Speech-Song-Speech-Rinse-Repeat fundraiser shows.
HOWEVER, I know with Bruce involved they should be able to raise alot of money.

(58 posts)However I think that having two locals involved will provide a much needed moral boost for the people in the tri-state area. Kudos for Joel, a Long Island resident, as he had retired from entertaining.

(95,337 posts)Bruce is no fan of Chris Christie - they are both from very opposing political ideologies even though Christie says he has attended over 100 Springsteen concerts (I guess Christie just ignores the lyrics).
Christie practically begged Bruce to play a show at the grand opening of the new Revel Casino in AC and Bruce just ignored him and instead did a 4 hour concert over in Philadelphia.
But I think this is a good time for Bruce and Jon Bon Jovi, both hardcore liberals, to reach out to Chris Christie and help with the rebuilding of New Jersey. It's the right thing to do!
