LIMAPeru's second vice president, Omar Chehade, resigned on Tuesday, the latest departure in the left-leaning cabinet of President Ollanta Humala after his administration began implementing a series of market friendly economic policies.
Mr. Chehade, also a member of Congress for Mr. Humala's Gana Peru party, resigned from his largely ceremonial post as a vice president following an influence-peddling scandal in a case that initially embarrassed the Humala administration, as the president had campaigned on an anticorruption banner.
Peru has two vice presidents who take over administrative duties when the president is out of the nation. Mr. Chehade, who was also Mr. Humala's personal lawyer, has denied the influence peddling allegations.
The resignation comes as former acting Central Reserve Bank of Peru President Oscar Dancourt left his post as an economic adviser to Mr. Humala.
