Biden to announce new social spending framework expected to win support of all Democrats

President Biden plans to announce Thursday a revised framework for his social spending plan that he expects will gain the support of all Democrats, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation, marking a potential breakthrough moment after months of lengthy negotiations and stalled talks.
The specifics of what the president would announce were not immediately clear, nor was it clear whether he would be prepared to announce the support of key Democratic holdouts. But Biden recently told congressional Democrats that he thought he could secure a deal for a spending plan between $1.75 trillion and $1.9 trillion.

All thats left is means tested childcare (emphasis on mean) and funding to buy a govt fleet of EVs.
Thats not a good bill; its a shit sandwich without bread.

(21,408 posts)my hope is that Democrats won't also join them in bashing the bill. We got exactly what we could get. We need to gain Senate seats to get more, one step at a time is better than standing in molasses.

As Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with the framework of certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
And there's Patrick Henry's quote: "Give me the framework of liberty, or give me death."
I know Biden is looking for a major accomplishment before he leaves for his summit, but announcing a "framework" just seems a little off for some reason. As much the final Build Back Better bill -- even weakened by the intransigence of two rogue senators -- is a major accomplishment in progressive legislation, I get a little antsy knowing that Manchin and Sinema can throw a monkey wrench into the works at the last moment, just because they can.
I mean, Manchin just drew one of his "red lines" to protect billionaires from the injustice of paying their fair share in taxes, even though W. Virginia has absolutely zero billionaires. The state does have a plethora of poor citizens who would benefit greatly from the original bill, and Manchin has made the point that his stances are being made in service of his constituents. How does that make sense?
I'm holding my breath until I see Biden putting pen to paper and signing the bill into law.
