Obama leads by 4 in Colorado

Source: Public Policy Polling

PPP's newest Colorado poll finds Barack Obama's position improving slightly in the state after his debate victory this week. He now leads Mitt Romney 51-47, up from a 50-47 spread last week.

Colorado voters think Obama was the winner of Monday night's debate by a 51/38 margin, and it seems to be having a positive impact on his approval numbers. 51% of voters give him good marks to 47% who disapprove, up from a 49/49 spread last week. Romney's favorability numbers are unchanged from a week ago with 48% of voters rating him favorably and 49% unfavorably. Voters trust Obama more on both the economy (50/46) and Libya (53/44) than they do Romney.

Obama has a 51/43 lead with independents. Beyond that his advantage is being driven by large margins with women (54/44), Hispanics (65/34), and young voters (60/35). Romney's main areas of support are with men (49/47), whites (52/46), and seniors (56/41).

When Gary Johnson's included he gets just 2%. He's polled at higher levels over the course of the year but this is what tends to happen with third party candidates as the election gets closer- their support evaporates. That's why we have tended not to include Johnson in most of our polling over the course of the year. Johnson draws slightly more from Obama than Romney, leaving the President ahead 49-46 when he's in the mix.

Which ones are the most reliable. I know a lot has to do with who they ask, the way the questions are framed, etc. But, I've heard that some polls are a bit bias and lean one way or the other.

Sometimes I sneak over to the dark side and read the incoherent rants of freepers. When a poll favors Obama they're 'rigged'. Who do you guys trust?

Yes, the only poll that matters is Nov. 6th this year. I voted today!! Let me tell you, as I marked my ballot my eyes started to fill up with tears, by the time I slid my ballot into the scanner they were rolls down my cheeks. I'm so proud to be able to cast my vote for President Obama. GO VOTE!!

PPP isn't the most reliable poll. I subscribe to Rasmussen, and that poll has Romney up by 5-6 points in Colorado.

highplainsdem is right. At the end of the day, you can't predict the election by the polls.

I apologize if I sound thick, but I never heard that Rassmussen was repub. My (repub) step-dad used to grumble that Rassmussen is left leaning.

Don't pay attention to them. They are all sorts of biased. Someone more knowledgeable will come along and explain why.

I've always been nicknamed 'undahcovah' since I was a kid (sneaky little guy I was ), and I use it as my internet monicker.

We are a lot smarter and much, much funnier than republicans. I regularly laugh out loud at things people write here.

If I were a infiltrator, I wouldn't use a name that could be seen as so obviously suspicious lol!

Seriously though, I apologize for causing a flap with Rassmussen. I just kind of absorbed my step-dad's opinion about polls, I guess, though thankfully none of his other opinions.

mio padrastro, if you're reading this (and I know you're not!), I love yah man! even though you're politically braindead lol

13. Hey "UndahCovah" (so sly) Colorado poll: Romney 48% – Obama 47%

Four percent, meanwhile, say they are undecided, while one percent say they prefer another candidate. Among independents, the survey shows Obama ahead of Romney, 50% to 42%.
