Hillary Clinton Indicates She Could Remain Secretary Of State Longer Than Expected

Source: Huffington Post

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hillary Clinton indicated that she could remain President Barack Obama's secretary of state longer than expected.

"A lot of people have talked to me about staying," Clinton explained.

When asked if current events will force her departure date to slip, she said it was "unlikely," but for the first time left open that possibility for the short term.

Clinton has previously said that she plans to step down from her position in the Obama administration after the president's first term should he win reelection.

She'll run, and she'll have my vote. I didn't back her in 2008, but will gladly do so this time.

If anyone has paid their dues and earned it, it's her. She has one of the thickest resumes possible for the job.

And she'll steamroll Christie Creme, Rubio or whoever the GOP coughs up in 2016.

I don't care much for the "DINO" label, but the fact is that Cuomo is all about himself. The Prince could care less about ideals so long as he has an opportunity to advance his own political ambitions.

I would have to lose her experience but I can understand if she wants to return to private life and potentially pursue other interests. She has previously indicated she is not interested in any future political life. We'll see. I supported her in 2008 and think she would make a tremendous president. I would definitely support her should she decide to pursue the White House in 2016. If BO is re-elected she would have some significant hurdles to overcome.

With the exception of GHWB following Reagan, the same party holding the WH for more than 2 terms is rare. I can't think of any other occurrence since the Constitution was amended to limit Presidents to two terms.

A clue If she Is running will be will she be working to help Democrats In 2014 midterms. Also If you start seeing her on cable news
show defending Obama record once free of SoS job.

with approval rating over 60 percent she will almost be impossible to beat In 2016 If she runs.

Reagan, Clinton and Bush II

Bush I won after Reagan
Gore "lost" after Clinton (and that is very, very arguable)
and Cheney chose not run (though he would have lost)

So we have one win, one "loss" and one abstain - so there's not a huge precedent that says she'll have a hard time

Also there could be a political reasoning behind staying a bit longer. If Kerry is to be named the SOS to follow Clinton, then his Senate seat would be up for grabs and could possibly (hopefully not) go Republican. I could see that jerk Scott Brown running for it when he gets flattened by Warren in November. With Hilary staying a bit longer, that would ease up any concerns on that senate seat while trying to get through various budget and tax legislation prior to next summer.

She already had a statement ready to release and tried to call Obama to thank him for being considered, but that the answer was no. She actually liked being a senator and wanted to continue being independent. He had been given a heads up about her decision and "wasn't able" to take her call. That night Biden, who has been a good friend for years, worked on her and appealed to her patriotism. Basically saying to her that the country was in a mess and Obama couldn't do it all by himself. The following morning she called Obama to accept his offer.

I supported her in 2008. When it was apparent that Obama would have the nomination, I (like Hillary) got behind him 100%. That's what this is all about.

Hillary is one of the most intelligent people in our world today. She is politically smart, she is street smart, and she is wise beyond her years. She knows when to think of "the one" and she knows when to think of "the many". She has selflessly considered "the many" a great number of times in her career.

If she chooses to run in 2016, I will be thrilled.

I look at someone like Sarah Palin...and I thank God for women like Hillary!!!

I could see her in 2016, though I would prefer she have a SOLID PROGRESSIVE with her, and sorry to say, I do not see many that would do it. The one thing that she must avoid is putting Rahm Emmanuel as a Veep. That WILL be a line too far.
