Study declares Obama winner of 'interruption debate'

Source: Fox newz

Although the question of who won the second presidential debate itself remains up for debate, a newly released study is declaring President Obama champion of what it calls the “interruption debate.”

The study by Chapman University and the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University finds Mitt Romney was interrupted 59 times during the debate Tuesday night by either Obama or moderator Candy Crowley of CNN.

Obama was interrupted 43 times during the 90-minute debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

---snip---

Crowley interrupted the candidates 38 times, compared to Romney interrupting her 11 times and Obama nine times.

Hopefully, Bob Scheiffer will turn of the mikes until the speaker has the floor.

Maybe they should pass a baton to determine whose turn it is to speak.

Because as it stands now, the candidate who interrupts the most seems to come out winning the debate. That is not helpful to the voters.

the President HAD to interrupt Romney, because Romney kept talking over his time limits, talking over the President, talking over the Moderator, and speaking out of turn, constantly. with his bizzarre rambling answers meant to keep the President from actually being able to respond to ONE point.

Who won the second debate is in no way debatable. "Please, proceed Governor". Who won the first debate is in fact debatable. If you think lies, deception, and rude behavior are acceptable debate tactics then you clearly think Romney won. If you think substance trumps the aforementioned behaviors then Obama won. The second debate, Romney lost by a lot. He lost on substance, style, and appearing competent(he looked like an idiot springing his own trap), only FOX could say that it's debatable who won. What was the article about again?

It never says how many times Romney interrupted Crowley and the President.
Romney was using the Gish Gallop a debating tactic employed when the debater does not have the facts or a sound argument.
The Bush cartel employed the Gish Gallop for eight long years.
If you watched Bill Mahr on Friday the two right wingers he had on did the same thing. It's standard operating procedure for Repubes. Just filibuster with a torrent of lies, half truths and obfuscations and sound authoritative. It's all smoke and mirrors because that's all they have.

Study: Obama Won Interruption Debate

Over One Interruption Per Minute in Pres. Debate #2, Romney Got Cut Off 37% More Often Than Obama

Mitt Romney was interrupted by both his opponent and the moderator more often than Barack Obama was during the second presidential debate, according to a new study by the George Mason University Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) and Chapman University. The study also recorded 122 interruptions overall, or 1.4 interruptions per minute during the 90 minute debate.

According to CMPA President Dr. Robert Lichter, President Obama may have benefited in the short run by adopting a much more aggressive style. But so many interruptions push the boundaries of civility in political debate.

Major Findings:

President Obama cut off Mr. Romney in mid-sentence 36 times, while Romney cut off Obama 28 times. Moderator Candy Crowley cut off Romney 23 times, compared to the 15 times she cut off Obama.

Combining these figures, Romney was interrupted while speaking 59 times, or 37% more often than the 43 times Obama was interrupted.

Ms. Crowley interrupted the two candidates a total of 38 times, nearly twice as often as the 20 times they interrupted her (11 times by Romney and 9 times by Obama). By contrast, the candidates interrupted moderator Jim Lehrer 30 times during the first presidential debate, as an earlier CMPA/Chapman study reported.

There was a total of 122 interruptions by the three participants, an average of 1.4 per minute in the 90 minute debate.

The Center for Media and Public Affairs is a non-profit, non-partisan research organization, which is affiliated with George Mason University. It has monitored every presidential election and every new administration since 1988 using the same methodology. on "oooh, he's so AGGRESSIVE!" and "Look how FORCEFUL he was!" instead of ideas, then I guess the President is going to have to interrupt. You dumb down the rules, you dumb down the result.

Romney made Morton Downey Jr. look like a Trappist Monk in debate 1, so Obama had to flip the script.
