Source: NY Times
On Thursday, that story was one of President Obama continuing to hold leads in most polls of critical states. Of the 13 polls of swing states released on Thursday, Mr. Obama held leads in 11 of them.

(3,003 posts)We must make sure that every single voter in the following states gets to the polls on Nov. 6:
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada.
If you or someone you know lives in any one of these states who may need a ride to the polls, call your local Obama campaign office or your local Democratic Party office IMMEDIATELY.
If you believe "just one vote" doesn't matter, remember 2000...and the disaster that ensued. The stakes are too high for us "not to make it to the polls." The Republicans (now the TEAPUBLICANS) have made it very clear what their intentions are should they win this election.
We cannot give them that opportunity.

(10,336 posts)That's because it is SO important. It cannot be understated. We all need to do our parts. GOTV! I'm voting early, one day this week.

(16,829 posts)usually for knocking on doors or calling and reminding people to vote. What if it comes down to a few electoral votes and he loses my state? And what if he loses my state by a few hundred votes!?

(38 posts)Tonight I was annoyed to be sitting in Florida doing phone banking for the campaign and calling - unbelievably - New Jersey 4/4s. This is insane! The general consensus amongst the volunteers was that we're ceding Florida to Mittens. There are plenty of polls to indicate that Florida is not a lost cause and that Obama may actually be leading the state by as much as 2%. I do not like this strategy, and especially don't like wasting time on New Jersey. Is there any reason to think NJ is in doubt? Why not spend time fighting for Florida and Ohio. If we lose those two states, we lose. All the other toss-up states are almost irrelevant. Someone please explain this to me.

(38 posts)The phone banking is actually going really well. We have been spending most of our time calling voters who have voted in four of the last four elections (4/4s). The people really respond to one-on-one interaction. You talk to some people who are rude, but most are really wonderful. Things have gone much better since the second debate. People loved the President last night too.
As for why we would shift focus from Florida, I just don't get it. 29 votes is the biggest electoral prize left; how is it not important? Again, even if we are working on getting out the vote, I don't understand the effort in states that aren't toss-ups. I will admit that there is a lot of fear of rethuglican chicanery screwing with the election down here, but that shouldn't stop our effort.

(38 posts)My mistake. We are calling Lawrenceville, GA, not Lawrenceville, NJ. Apparently internal polls are showing Georgia back in play. Sorry for the mistake.
Busy day, wish us well!

Seems strange that not all FL phone banks are calling FL voters, tho.
