WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two law enforcement officers in Michelle Obama's motorcade were injured on Monday when their motorcycles hit each other as they were escorting the first lady in Delaware, Ohio.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment but were not seriously hurt, according to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
The officers were part of a motorcade en route to the airport from Delaware, where the first lady had delivered a speech at Ohio Wesleyan University.
The motorcade did not stop despite the accident, and the first lady was unhurt.

Unless she was riding one of the bikes, I had no doubt the first lady was fine.

(776 posts)If they needed bikes that could do 180-200 mph for dealing with real crime that is 1 thing, but H/D police bikes can't go fast, the cops wear open face helmets (not the best) and bikes in general are a good way to get killed.
I have ridden for 35 years & will never go out in rush hour or any in any kind of traffic. I avoid riding when lot of leaves are on the road and after a big rain storm to avoid gravel.
Lastly I spend a lot of time watching for danger, if I had to look around to SEE job related activity I can't imagine how I could ride safely.
Police m/c seem like a waste of money & even if a cop is not killed, it is a good way to end up so hurt the LOCAL taxpayers are on the hook fore care & disability pay.

(776 posts)You would not have much fun doing any off road stuff on a H/D, they weigh at least 750 lbs, probably more, in damp grass they would sink to the frame.
If I was gonna race away from a cop, i would rather have him on a bike than a ford crown victoria Police Interceptor.
A Philly cop was just killed on his m/c a few weeks ago & it was a drunk driver.
After 35 years of riding & being hit by 1 car going over 50 mph (i was parking) & going under a tractor trailer w/80,000lbs of gravel in the trailer & dodging wheels & being hit in the head by an axle, I know how dangerous they can be.
I had a full face, top of the line helmet in both incidents & amazingly no concussions in these incidents.

And here's what happens when you chase somebody in a crown vic. Have to give the cop credit he tried real hard LOL
And this cop thinks his crown vic is 4WD

(776 posts)Accelerate, slam brakes & turn.........and repeat!
Most cars cannot do that very many times till the brake fluid over heats & u have trouble.
Next thing my bikes get is a brake fluid flush & the best DOT5 brake fluid made & I do not care how much it costs.
The R1 could not have been going WFO they are pretty fast. 10.6sec 1/4 mile @135mph top end over 170....... I think the m/c rider was not going as fast as he could.
The most bothersome thing was why it started, 15 mph over the limit. How many people were put in danger?
Sure the rider was a dope but the whole thing should not have happened. If the cop did not chase him & rider stayed on hwy, backup could easily have been waiting down the road.
The off road Harley was pretty funny, those things are expensive & I was surprised to see the one with 1 guy pullin & 1 more pushing.
I have been in more than my share of accidents & may exceed the speed limit once in a while but at 51 years of age, I know better.
My friends friend tried this on a GSXR600, and exited the Hwy & crashed into someones lawn, he hid till his broken ribs & punctured lungs motivated him to scream for help. Another friend of a friend was doing a 100mph wheelie & someone did a left in front of him.
He hit the car, ripped off a leg, went airborne & hit an 18" tree trunk. all his limbs tore off, he kept his head, too bad he was dead.
Ok I gotta go pace & worry about the debate. (otherwise I would be here all day.)
