DCCC Backs Bachmann’s Opponent In MN
Source: TPM
National Democrats believe Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) could lose this fall. Bachmann, one of the top tea party Republicans facing national efforts to defeat them from progressive groups this year, is now on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's "Red to Blue" district target list.
On Monday the DCCC announced it will throw its weight behind businessman Jim Graves, who has mounted a well-funded campaign targeted at highlighting Bachmann's national profile as a divisive figure. Democrats in Washington like what they see, and now promise Graves support from the national party.
"During Congresswoman Michele Bachmanns career in Washington, she has been more focused on being a national right-wing celebrity than on delivering for the Minnesota families she represents," DCCC chair Steve Israel (NY) said in a statement. "Voters are experiencing buyers remorse with Congresswoman Bachmann and her relentless desire to put ideology over solutions."

(23,155 posts)Go Jim! Jim's a successful businessman who currently operates Graves 601 hotel and started AmericInn. He's a passionate Democrat who knows how to effectively work across the aisle. He comes from Michele's district and unlike her, he is very much in touch with his constituents.

(298 posts)I still don't understand why a person like Bachmann who is so pro family and pro life, and brags about all her kids and fosters kids has never.....never shown herself in any ads or pictures with her family. I think last year was the first time her hubby came out and made his presence known. Most politicians at least have a family photo, especially if they are running on a family values theme.

(94,727 posts)...this is an excellent example of how DCCC works. The Party doesn't have funds to fully support everyone, so they look for performance and results, and target their assistance where it's needed and where it will make a difference. This race was marked as "Likely Republican" six months ago, but through organizational structure, fundraising and campaign strategy, Graves has managed to close a massive funding gap and develop a message that has brought the polling difference to within the margin of error, and has moved the race into "Tossup" territory. Well worth a contribution.

(8,694 posts)Don't know if I should wear my "Nurses For Obama" or my "Democratic Underground" T shirt. Maybe go stealth or tape teabags and flags on my head (this IS the MN-6 after all). I wore the DU T-shirt during Kerry campaign when I shook Elizabeth Edward's hand and she read my shirt and gave me the BIGGEST smile, so it's sentimental.

(417 posts)Many Minnesotans believe he could win too. I wished I lived in their district just so I could vote for him! The only thing Bachmann has going for her is the insane amount of money within her campaign. This really evens it out, I think he's going to win. Hopefully, Rick Nolan wins up in the 8th district too and Minnesota will turn two seats from red to blue!!
