Rand Paul goes national

Source: Politico

Less than a month before the end of the 2012 election, the first-term Kentucky senator is embarking on his most vigorous effort yet to expand his national profile.

Over the last week, Paul used his political committee — RAND PAC — to launch television ads in the Ohio, West Virginia and Florida Senate races, hammering incumbent Democrats on foreign aid. That offensive will intensify in the coming weeks, Paul advisers said, with an additional two or three Senate races on the Republican’s target list.

When Paul’s leadership PAC reports its fundraising haul later this month, a Paul strategist said RAND PAC will have over $1 million in the bank. Paul intends to put that hefty sum to active use: the TV ads he has begun to air bolster congressional efforts to block foreign aid to Libya, Egypt and Pakistan. Paul describes the measure as a response to attacks on American diplomatic outposts in North Africa and Pakistan’s imprisonment of a doctor who helped the U.S. locate Osama bin Laden.

Paul has ramped up his political travel, too, making trips across Kentucky’s northern border to stump for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in Ohio. Later this month, he’s slated to appear in New Hampshire as a Romney-Ryan surrogate — Paul’s second visit in recent months to an early presidential primary state, after a spring trip to Iowa where Paul visited with top evangelical organizers.

Barrack Obama. Who wants a $2T in 10 years in extra defense spending ($200B/yr)? We give $40B in economic aid around the world per year ($5B to Afghanistan, $2B to Pakistan, $1.5B to Haiti, $1B to Iraq). Most of the other aid goes to northern Africa countries. Obviously at least $8B of economic aid goes to support military missions.

1. He's campaigning against his father who is still running for president.
2. Like Chris Christie, Rand is running national ads, to position himself for 2016.
3. Also like Chris Christie, this shows Rand doesn't expect Romney to win.
4. Rand is going high profile in case he can get a desirable Senate Committee position.

Just after the raid. He wouldn't go. We couldn't force him to go.

Too bad for him and for all spies who undermine legitimate institutions and organizations by using them as cover for covert operations.

I am a Kentuckian. Paul is a nut, and sounds like he is lecturing when he speaks. He wants us to believe global warning is fake and his hair is real.
He has zero appeal nationally. Let him think he does.
