Romney campaign: Michigan win not necessary to get to White House

Source: Detroit News

Michigan is not a must win state for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, his campaign said Wednesday.

Despite new polls showing Romney has narrowed the gap over President Barack Obama in Michigan from double digits, Romney's deputy campaign manager Katie Packer Gage said the campaign has made no decisions to boost efforts in Michigan.

"There are some places that we really feel we have to win in order to win this election. There are many paths for us that get to the White House — they don't all go through Michigan for us," Gage told The Detroit News in an interview Wednesday. "For Barack Obama they do. So we want to make sure that he's got to fight for it and he can't just take it for granted."

... "We've got to take care of the first sort of critical states first and then look to the next round of states," Gage said. "There are other states where the race is tighter — that's where the battle is going to be fought first."

Hmmmm...

The entire state of MI must be part of that 47% that he doesn't worry about. Everyone in MI is a freeloader, obviously.

Since I see him winning states no bigger than 16 EVs (Georgia).

Where does the White House victory come?

He's currently leading in FL and NC. Obama is leading in VA, IA, and OH. Ohio is going to be the hardest of those states for Romney to win.

Or if he loses Ohio but wins Colorado and Nevada it will be a tie, in which case it goes to the House of Representatives. In that scenario, the Constitution provides that each state delegation in the House gets one vote

Fifty votes, fifty states. There's more red states than blue states.

California's 37 million people count as much as Wyoming's half million, in that game plan.

A first time in American history. And a time when America has moved beyond these issues 30 years ago, women's rights, abortion rights, gay rights.

Never have the rich paid less in taxes, never have corporations escaped so much legitimate taxation, and moved so many jobs overseas.

Sounds like poor sportsmanship to me, or rather sour grapes. Can't even win his home state.

Well, this Michigander already voted and it sure wasn't for Romney.

I think I do that a lot actually. And certainly here. But the facts lead me to it, as you say.

I am old, there is not much they can threaten me with now, to quote Daisy Miller, "I am not afraid." Of course she wound up dead of malaria, but so do we all, one way or another.
