South Carolina Voter ID Law Blocked For 2012

A panel of three federal judges has blocked South Carolina's voter ID law from going into effect in November, according to a court order. The Justice Department had challenged the law under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

Not that SC will sway the election either way being a solid red state but it's good to see another of these ALEC-born bills stopped and people's voting rights preserved.

(32,037 posts)Concurring judge John D. Bates is also a GWB nominee. Colleen Kollar-Kotelly is a Clinton nominee. Amazing to see a Republican majority panel say no to voter suppression IDs.

(17,528 posts)It can require quite an effort for some to get an ID...that no one will bother after the election...then in 2016 Democrats are really going to feel the effects of that law.
They need to repeal the whole law!

(4,982 posts)Not "delayed". Not "adjusted". Completely repealed and blocked from ever being brought up again. Of course the GOP and their ALEC friends et al would just come up with some new dirty trickery or Jim Crow stuff, instead.
