Mitt Romney Abortion Stance Changes, As Candidate Says He Won't Push To Restrict Access

Source: huffingtonpost.com

OOPS.Romney Campaign Walks Back Mitt's Surprise Abortion Comments, 2 Hours Later

<SNIP>
The Romney campaign walked back the remark within two hours of the Register posting its story. Spokeswoman Andrea Saul told the National Review Online's Katrina Trinko that Romney "would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."

UPDATE: 8:50 p.m. -- The Obama campaign responded later Tuesday, asking whether Romney had lied to the Register about his plans.

"It’s troubling that Mitt Romney is so willing to play politics with such important issues," Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. "But we know the truth about where he stands on a woman’s right to choose – he’s said he’d be delighted to sign a bill banning all abortions, and called Roe v. Wade ‘one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history’ while pledging to appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn it. Women simply can’t trust him."

25. What Would Happen If Romney Was Talking To A Foreign Leader
Tue Oct 9, 2012, 11:36 PM
Oct 2012

Instead of a political speech and Romney continually misled the foreign leader. The consequences would be severe. Romney already tells Netanyahu what he wants to hear so what happens if it Merkel, Putin or Kim. This is simply unacceptable for a leader of the United States to not know what the policy is.

I am beginning to think that the election laws need to be changed where political leaders can't simply get away with telling people what they want to hear only to have aids correct the record the next day. It needs to be financial in nature but I not sure if it should be stiff fines or paying for ads showing the original statement plus the retraction. Think not, just look at what has happened with the polls following Romney lie filled debate where Romney was obviously telling people what he thought they wanted to hear and, indeed, that turned out to be the case. We simply cannot have elections going forward that are anything like what is happening in this election. A Democracy cannot survive such shenanigans.

...if he just throws a bone to one group, then throws another bone to another... all sides find a morsel of hope for their pet issue even if it's just till someone retracts the statement. It's a psychological ploy. As we have seen, there are a lot of gullible people out there who just want an "experience" of hope and a subliminal boost is good enough. They don't care if it's true or not. Come election day, if they feel Obama hasn't given them the rush they are looking for, they may just vote for the "bone".

But I know I've seen quite a few others that the campaign come out and walked back quickly the past few weeks but I can't remember what they were now.

a mormon once told me that their church believed that life began at birth.

And so I asked about abortion. and this same mormon told me that it's a womans choice. That is the traditional view of the Latter Day Saints.

I have no idea if this was BS or not, but I have heard Orin Hatch state pretty much the same thing.

36. The return of Massachusetts Mitt
Wed Oct 10, 2012, 08:37 AM
Oct 2012

One of Mitt's talking points is how he worked across the aisle with the Democrats in Massachusetts to get it done. With a Demo advantage of 87%, I guess he had to. The thing is, though, Massachusetts Mitt was not the same Mitt as the "Severely Conservative" Mitt that campaigned the past year-and-a-half to appease the tea party folks. This guy would never have been elected in Massachusetts if he were that conservative. No one makes it in Massachusetts who is tea-party conservative. But look who has just shown up again - Mass. Mitt! Give me a break. Who knows what he thinks? Does he know what he thinks?

SO, Romneys numbers are rising, and yet her REFUSES to say how he will fix the economy, how much and how he will pay for the tax cut he is planning, how he basically told 1/2 of this country, they didn't matter and are crap, beginnning to now lie to his base, by saying I will not cut taxes on the wealthy, I do not have an abortion agenda.....
