Poll: Wide Support For Measure To Legalize Gay Marriage In Washington

A referendum to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington is a strong favorite to pass next month, according to a new poll released over the weekend.

The poll, conducted by SurveyUSA and commissioned by KING-5 News in Seattle, shows 55 percent of likely voters support Referendum 74, which would affirm a law signed by Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) in February that made Washington the seventh state to legalize marriage for same-sex couples. Only 40 percent are opposed to the measure.

Polls have consistently shown around 50 percent support for Referendum 74, as evidenced by the PollTracker Average.

It's hard to stay focused. This is VERY important from a justice perspective, and there are a lot of good people waiting on this to pass, so it's important to do it for the right reasons. Especially since it's not directly my fight.


But..

There is a small mean part of me that is just positively trembling with excitement at the possibility of rubbing this referendum in the faces of the 'So far no state has legalized same sex marriage by popular vote' crowd. I mean really rub their noses in it. They have been vicious, vile, bullies. I intend to savor this victory.

I see the Yes side getting 53%-55% of the vote.

But I am wondering. Could there be a "bradley effect" for marrige equality people not willing to admit there real opinion to a pollster? NOt wanting to sound like a bigot?

6. Maryland, Maine and Minnesota up Next

I think we have a shot in Maryland in large part due to Obama's leadership and possibly swaying predominately African-American DC suburbs.

Again. It's common sense. I'll be glad to vote again for marriage equality and hope that the haters will learn to live with it -- or move out of state.
