Chris Wallace won't fact check Trump and Biden during the debate
Source: CNN
The presidential debates for the 2020 election kick off Tuesday in Cleveland, and many Americans are uncertain about what to expect. One thing is for sure: Fox News Sunday anchor and moderator Chris Wallace will not be tasked with fact-checking the candidates in real-time.
"We don't expect Chris or our other moderators to be fact checkers," Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., co-chair, The Commission on Presidential Debates, told CNN's Chief Media Correspondent Brian Stelter on "Reliable Sources" Sunday. "The minute the TV is off there will be plenty of fact checkers."
The topics for Tuesday's debate, selected by Wallace himself, include: Trump and Biden's records, the Supreme Court, Covid-19, the economy, race and violence in our cities, and the integrity of the election.
If one of the candidates says something incorrect onstage Tuesday, it is the other candidate's job to raise concern and essentially fact check live, Fahrenkopf said.

Just use a few seconds to point out that PINO is a liar, then move on.
That way he controls his own parts of the debate.

(11,692 posts)For the most part ignore T-Wrecks lying and just make illustrations to the truths and what Biden has and will do for the good. BUT at times make very well-contrasted and evidentiary accounts of Ts extorting reality for his own gains.

(6,867 posts)And became a favorite of the media in so doing. Not only NOT fact checking but getting a big surge in notoriety(and ratings) by casually dismissing the crucial points of his opponent with an off hand and inappropriate dismissal of the very sort of details he would miscue and screw up for 8 years. The christening of the USS Dumbing Down with chuckle-headed media accompaniment by the "teflon-for-ever" trio (CBS, NBC, ABC) was done and our national course charted to these dangerous waters.
But I too will hope "Factual Joe" can carry the night. As this time may be the last opportunity to stage-craft our way from the abyss.

(32,626 posts)it's up to the American people to figure out what a lie is and what is the truth, because 'the minute the tv is off there will be plenty of fact checkers'.. where? What a joke.

(4,919 posts)Fact-checking Trump is a full-time job. Wallace knows its a waste of time and would feed into Trumps desire for distraction, disruption and feed his whining about the unfair media. People are pretty tuned into the election this year. Joe just needs to be calm, and avoid his own tendency to stop in the middle of sentences to start new ones. Be clear, concise, and take no prisoners.

A lot of it is expanding your vocabulary so when you sense a stutter coming on you can pick a synonym. Making that seamless and unnoticed takes years of work. I speak about 99% normal now, and it's not because stuttering just wears off. I've admired Joe Biden for it for a long time.

(6,943 posts)The clock is Trumps enemy, he likes to rant on and on and on about nothing. It isnt because its deliberate, its because he cant think quickly. A clock will cut him off, leaving him in mid-sentence.
Fact-checking will be subconscious, seeing Trump fumble will make him look untruthful and incompetent. Let Trump demonstrate himself how Biden is comparatively better.
Trumps devotees will be unmoved, but if anybody is still undecided it wont be a good outing for Trump. Hes an over-the-hill reality-TV actor who is now in charge of casting decisions. He arrogantly selects himself for the role as a leading man, But Trump is way, way past his prime.

(13,583 posts)the news anchors should fact check trump in real time even if they interrupt the debate. I know that wont happen, but they should do so right after the debate is over even if it takes ALL NIGHT!

After the TV lights are off the audience (who the fact checking benefits) is dispersed so the lies are what gets remembered. Corruption is everywhere you turn.

No, he is going to be as bad as 2016.
