Pelosi knocks Trump over refusal to commit to peaceful transfer of power
Source: MSN/The Hill
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tore into President Trump Thursday after he declined the day before to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the presidential election in November.
"We want a peaceful transfer of power," Pelosi said at a press conference when asked about Trump's remarks. "It's very sad that you even have to ask that question."
Trump raised eyebrows by casting doubt over whether he would peacefully relinquish his post if he were to lose this November to former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee.
"We're going to have to see what happens, you know, but I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots. The ballots are a disaster," Trump told reporters when asked if he would commit to making sure there is a peaceful transition.

Given that Trump lost the popular vote, he is hardly the person to complain about transfers of power.

(6,254 posts)That's correct. It's very sad that our MSM has to resort to creating talking points and controversy.
It's all about ratings and ad revenue.

(17,390 posts)I think Pelosi is spot on that the best way to counter Trump is to GOTV in overwhelming numbers, particularly with respect to the Senate. If Trump feels that he has a docile Republican Senate to back him up, who knows what will happen. Thus, we can't stop at the Presidency. We need to win Congress.

"That the president of the United States would place in doubt the idea of the peaceful transfer of power, well its not a surprise," Pelosi said. But a clear result from voters, she said, would be the "antidote" to any doubts raised by Trump in his comments. "I have confidence in the American people," she said.
Pelosi's remarks came as congressional Republicans declined to directly confront Trump's comments but emphatically rejected the notion that the country would see anything but a peaceful transition of power should Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden win the election. Trump, though, has spent months raising baseless claims about the integrity of the election rooted in baseless claims about foreign meddling with mail-in ballots and rampant voter fraud in Democrat-led states.
Earlier this year, the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee unanimously described rhetoric undermining confidence in the election results as a national security threat that could aid adversaries' efforts to sow doubt about the integrity of the election. FBI Director Christopher Wray has described misinformation about election integrity as his top concern ahead of Nov. 3.

(6,254 posts)is that it seems that "we" have to prove that the election results are fair and that the ballyhooing is fake.
"Guilty until proven innocent," just like back during the Inquisition and the Salem witch trials.
Way to go.
