Police use tear gas, Portland protesters throw fire bombs

Source: Reuters

Sept 6 (Reuters) - Protesters in Portland threw rocks and fire bombs at police who in turn used tear gas on Saturday night and at least one person was injured, on the 100th day of demonstrations in the Oregon city against racism and police brutality.

Police described what they called "tumultuous and violent conduct" by protesters on the city's Southeast Stark Street.

"Fire bombs were thrown at officers, injuring at least one community member", police said https://bit.ly/34lgHyK on Twitter while re-tweeting a video posted by a New York Times reporter showing fire bombs being thrown and a protester running with his legs on fire.

Police used tear gas to disperse the gathering, the Oregonian newspaper reported, estimating the number of protesters at around 400.

Who are these protesters, are they outsiders? If they are throwing Fire bombs we will lose the support from other Americans that we have gained. Where are the protest leader's voices on this? We can't let this happen.

I don't expect protest leaders and BLM organizers to say anything. I think they are afraid of these clearly bought-and-paid-for anarchists.

None of what is going on in Portland now has anything to do with police abuse & abuse of power

But let's be real, let's say a Black female BLM protestor approaches a group of White people smashing windows and throwing fireworks and tells them to stop; I bet money that those White "allies" would either ignore the Black woman or worse, turn their aggression on her.

Especially the leaders of these movements. They all should be holding press conferences or issuing releases to the press denouncing this activity.
Not addressing & denouncing it is almost tacitly endorsing it in the eyes of the average joe.

18. Our Black Leaders Have Said...

Sep 2020

Our Black leaders have been saying for a long time that this does not help the cause of BLM. Religious leaders say ignore these folks and keep working to change things Reimagine Oregon is working at the state and city level to change things. These are the people doing the work while others throw stuff. This isn’t covered because it isn’t exciting. We do have a real problem here with entrenched racist police for decades. Many police oversight citizens committees have quit and gone home. Black people HAVE been treated horribly here for way too long.

But I am sure they are very frustrated with all this violence on behalf of these White folks. I'm at a point where BLM should tell White people to go and stay home.

4th Amendment.

Also, remember that the downtown area is also a residential area, not just a protest venue. Not everyone entering this area is involved in the protests, they could just be visiting someone, going to work or going home

And they also do it in prison, shake downs.

But its still an imposition on the people, especially residents and others in the area for non-protest related reasons. I think if the Portland police were to start searching people on the street , they'd get a lot of pushback.
