Kountze Cheerleaders Win The Right To Pray Another Day, For Now

Source: Burnt Orange Report

Today a Governor Perry appointed District Judge in Hardin County extended a temporary restraining order allowing Kountze cheerleaders to display religious banners in their official capacity during football games, at least until Oct. 14th.

The controversy started a few weeks ago after a complaint was filed with KISD officials about the signs. After consultation with the district's attorney, backed by Texas Association of School Boards, the district banned the banners per the US Supreme court decision in Santa Fe ISD vs. Jane Doe. At today's hearing the superintendent for KISD now claims he received bad advice from the district's attorneys and that banning the signs violated district policy. The ban does not, despite claims by the Washington Times, extend to individual student activities in the stands...

It's not about allowing religion... it's about allowing THEIR particular religion only.

IF school officials neither directed those banners to be hung nor if they helped determine the message on them.

And that other faiths' displays are allowed.

But you're right in practicality.

I am from Beaumont (Jefferson County) you cannot even imagine.

"Eyes roll back in their sockets" when Baby Jesus is in the head-lights.

Those people are crazy.

I remember when (back in the 60's) the cops in Vidor would break the fingers of folks arrested for possession to dis-enable them from rolling joints.

No shit...

I actually still live here and since I am not religious in any way, it can get very interesting.

A friend of mine is thinking about making an "Allah is Great!" sign and seeing what happens when she holds it up in the stands.

by being the only people to figure out you can call on divine assistance during football games the almighty will give all his support to this team.

How can the other teams compete against that?

So this is unsporting really.

Tinker v Des Moines was a SC decision that allowed anti war protesters to wear black arm bands in protest of the Vietnam War. Conservative SC justices have criticized this 1969 decision, and so have conservative activists. Now they're using it as their main argument for encouragements to school prayer.
