Ship leaking tons of oil off Mauritius has split apart

Source: ABC News

JOHANNESBURG -- The grounded Japanese ship that leaked tons of oil near protected areas off the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius has split apart, officials said Saturday, with remaining fuel spreading into the turquoise waters.

Photos posted on social media by the official cleanup effort with support of the environment ministry show the ship in two pieces, “and the tugboats are already at work.” Oil barriers were in place and a skimmer ship was nearby.

Most if not all the remaining 3,000 tons of fuel had been pumped off the ship in the past week as environmental groups warned that the damage to coral reefs and once-pristine coastal areas could be irreversible.

The MV Wakashio struck a reef on July 25 and its hull began to crack after days of pounding waves. Some 1,000 tons of fuel began to leak on Aug. 6.

...and that's globally speaking. Not to mention an immediate alternative to petroleum products as well.

Only then will it be an end to big oil production.

So what's the other side of the plan to end the reliance on oil & its products?

With the demise of the US shale fields, we are now buying an increase in Russian oil.

Vlad's pleased. Worked out well for him.
Makes ya wonder if....

I agree fossil fuels must go. Asap.
But we can yell & demand all we want & it falls in deaf ears until people & business are given an immediate alternative & replacement to its use.
Without that forethought of action, oil & gasoline engines will keep chuggung out fumes & oil rich nations will keep producing & supplying the world.

The world is so dependent on ffuels in a million different areas.
Its a daunting task indeed.
When you can't get a population to wear a mask to stop a deadly virus from killing human beings, how do you stop every vehichle & plane & boat etc in every city, state & country in the world from filling up their gas tank ?

Where's the how-to plan that follows thru with the chant to end fossil fuels?

That is what I want to see. So far ..nothing

I hear no one with that kind of plan nor power to enforce.
It has to be stopped by the end of next week.

That's the deadline as far as I see it.
