NEW: Clark County exceeds 800 COVID-19-related deaths with 9 reported in past 24 hours

Source: CBS 8 News Now

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The state of Nevada is reporting eight new COVID-19-related deaths, while Clark County is reporting nine in the past 24 hours, according to numbers released today.

With this update, Clark County exceeded 800 deaths Sunday while the state inched closer to 1,000.

Data released Sunday notes 811 new COVID-19 cases in Nevada and 727 in Clark County in the last day. Statewide, 8,597 tests were reported on Saturday.

Over the course of the past four to five weeks, recent COVID-19 data shows Nevada is continuing to set records for cases, testing, hospitalizations, ICU patients and ventilator usage.

It seems like the vast bulk of Nevada's cases are centered in Clark County where Las Vegas is located. Back in April, Las Vegas's mayor clashed with Nevada's Governor and proposed that Las Vegas immediately reopen and serve as a "control group."

state would be 2nd worse after Louisiana (7 day moving average of daily new cases per 100k population). Details:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html

On the map that shows up, one can hover the mouse over any county to see some of its stats.

Then below the map are the 7 day moving average trend mini-charts for each state

click on Nevada for details:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/nevada-coronavirus-cases.html

(also has a counties map of Nevada - Clark County is the big red one in the southern tip of the state -- 35 per 100,000 is very high)

For Nevada, looks like the 7 day moving average of daily new cases fell 24% in the last 20 days (it doesn't include Sunday 8/09 where the OP excerpt reports 811 new cases)

7/20: 1173 (peak)
8/08: 896
-24%

Another Go-To site for me is https://globalepidemics.org/key-metrics-for-covid-suppression/

which lists the states in order by daily new cases per 100k population, 7 day moving average (on the right side of the page)

Nevada is #6 at 30 per 100,000

Click on Nevada and it lists the counties - Clark is highest at 36.2 per 100,000

If Clark County was a state, it would be the 2nd highest state, just after Louisiana at 38.3, (Mississippi is 2nd at 32.1)
