This past spring, President Donald Trump began a full-fledged assault on voting by mail, tweeting, retweeting and railing about massive fraud and rigged elections with scant evidence.
Then the Republican apparatus got to work backing up the president.
In the weeks since, Trumps campaign and the Republican National Committee have taken to the courts dozens of times as part of a $20 million effort to challenge voting rules, including filing their own lawsuits in several battleground states, including Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Nevada. And around the time Trump started musing about delaying the election last week, aides and outside advisers began scrambling to ponder possible executive actions he could take to curb mail-in voting everything from directing the postal service to not deliver certain ballots to stopping local officials from counting them after Election Day.
The actions can only make so much difference before November elections are mostly run at the state and local level, and are subject to congressional authority. And some fellow Republicans are warning the president privately and publicly that attempts to restrict mail-in ballots could actually hurt the GOP in November, scaring Republicans from voting remotely even if they also refuse to vote in person during a pandemic. New polling has fueled these concerns.

(43,156 posts)So why mess with the USPS? Why not just make it illegal to count Democratic ballots? Isn't that where we're headed?

I love the smell of Trump's fear in the morning. Reminds me of victory.

Trump can't tell TikTok who they can or can't be owned by.
Trump can't sue the state of Nevada for laws it has on its books and or state Constitution
Trump can't change the census
And Trump can't tell the USPS what mail they can or can't handle ... he tried that with Amazon and he was shut down cold.

(101,312 posts)Again. It's exactly the kind of abuse of power the other parts of the US government are duty-bound to counter.

(14,173 posts)Democrats mostly trust the PO, to send their vote through, and that structures are in place to weed out any fraudulent ballots. (Psssssst: has something to do with the .0025% rate in the last election). Also we have a tendency (earned) to regard whatever Trump says, the opposite is actually the truth.
But the deplorables will be in a fit. I can totally see a good chuck of them refusing to use the mail after the Dear Leader said not to use it. And then how many will stand in hours long line ups, made possible by their GOP governors?

(32,764 posts)Than the Dems.
The gop are already very unenthused about voting, whereas the dems and independents are fired up!!
Dotard fails at everything he does, he will fail at this too!!

(22,063 posts)With Dems collecting hoards of ballots, where anyone can sign them because the signatures aren't verified, and turning them in en mass? And states don't have the infrastructure to handle it?
