Libertarian presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen had to cancel a planned campaign rally appearance set for Saturday after she was bit by a bat.
"I will not be able to attend the campaign rally tomorrow morning. I will be getting a rabies vaccine as a precaution after having been bitten by a bat near the start of this campaign tour," Jorgensen tweeted Friday.
Jorgensen's campaign wrote on Facebook that she would get a rabies vaccine on the advice of her doctor, though she later tweeted that she did not believe the bat was rabid. The candidate indicated she was still planning on attending events for her campaign on Saturday afternoon in Mississippi.
Jorgensen, who has registered around 3 percent support in recent state polls, appeared to be taking the incident in stride, tweeting multiple bat-related posts Friday night.

"One bat bite is all it takes to stop you 🤔
Cant they come to you with the shot."
"Not with the health care system we have now!
And I'm not stopped...I'm just pausing for a few hours."
"Hmm. Maybe we should have Single Payer healthcare"
"Or maybe we should have a free market in which doctors could travel to the patient outside of a hospital or their offices."

Not a single libertarian has spoken up against the use of military force against American citizens in Portland and other cities.
Libertarians enthusiastically applauded anti-choice judges being appointed to the Supreme Court.

(15,465 posts)They are very anti-police. I have a few kook libertarian acquaintances. They all were protesting police violence in June - all without masks, because they believe that's against their freedom. These people are insane. Oh yeah, they smoke a lot of weed too (not that there's anything wrong with that).

In NYS, our local board of health always recommends the immune globulin shot series as well as the vaccine.

(25,871 posts)And they are likewise almost never rabid. For some reason there's a very popular misconception out there that bats bite humans every chance they get, and usually have rabies. Just not true.
So again, I wonder what in the world that woman was doing to get bitten by a bat. Or did she simply offer that as a weird excuse to cancel the campaign appearance.

#)2 your local board of health would have recommended that you get the immune globulin as well as the vaccine. The immune globs are Some nasty Painful shots that will SAVE YOUR LIFE.

A quick check shows that about 1 to 3 people get rabies each year in this country. 25 cases in between 2009 and 2018.
More people get Plague each year in New Mexico. We had our first plague death this year just recently.
