CNN)Covid-19 precautions need to stay consistent -- whether or not the numbers are coming down -- because the more Americans move around the more the virus does too, a health expert said.
When case numbers start to come down, people tend to interact more, and more movement predicts how the virus will spread, said Dr. Christopher Murray, director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
Though cases have risen to more than 4.9 million and coronavirus deaths have surpassed 161,000, former hotspots like New York are seeing positive changes. But health experts have predicted the national death toll will get worse through the year, and many have called for a stronger national leadership against the virus.
In list ranking countries response to the pandemic assessed by Foreign Policy Magazine, the United States ranks near the bottom.

(3,257 posts)However, we brought our own food and water. We only stopped to use the bathroom and to get gas. We wore masks and gloves.
We even sprayed our shoes with hand sanitizer before getting back in the car.
We had to drive through Indiana, Ohio, PA, and Illinois. Indiana was the only state where mask wearing was spotty and the bathrooms were gross.
I was actually surprised that in Ohio it appeared everyone was wearing a mask.
However, passed a couple of RV parks with waterparks and the scary thing is, they were PACKED. We also passed a few malls and the parking lots were completely full.
Compliance is all over the place. There are too many people that just dont seem to care.

(8,734 posts)Mouth breathing, maskless bugger eaters. 250,000 of em. Thats a lot of contaminated bugger consumption. And those bikers travel the country all summer for rallies, go to bars, wear no masks. I live in Western North Carolina. Rallies every weekend. Maggie Valley is a hot bed. Rallies, Floridiots, Georgians, and all the other southern Petri dishes with Trump governors. This will never end. 30 percent of stupid in power and media control will kill the masses.

(16,186 posts)Admittedly, we booked tickets to visit a lake house months ago when numbers were going down. We have now rescheduled once and don't get another reschedule per the airlines. Trying to decide if we just need to eat the cost of these tickets. It's not the plane I am worried about. It is the random idiots we see everywhere else.
