Most voters say they'd rather wait for an effective coronavirus vaccine

Source: Politico

More than 60 percent of voters think the U.S. should fully test any coronavirus vaccine — even if that delays rolling it out and allows the virus to keep spreading in the meantime, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.

Just 22 percent of respondents said the government should make a vaccine available as soon as possible, even if it had not been fully tested. Republicans (26 percent) were slightly more likely than Democrats (21 percent) to favor getting a vaccine out as quickly as possible.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly promised that a vaccine will be available by year's end — raising fears among researchers and public health experts that his administration will rush to approve a shot without clear evidence that it is safe and effective.

“In the race for a highly sought-after COVID-19 vaccine, voters are not willing to sacrifice safety for expediency. Roughly two-thirds say the United States should prioritize fully testing any potential coronavirus vaccine, even if that means a delayed offering to the public and a continued spread of the virus,” said Kyle Dropp, co-founder and chief research officer at Morning Consult.

The solution is cheap, government-issued on-demand testing, results in minutes or one hour.

Your kid has a fever. Test. If they have COVID, stay home or face repercussions.
You wake up with a fever, test and if positive stay home or face repercussions.

We can test a criminal suspect’s DNA quickly but not a criminal disease? We shell out billions for a vaccine when testing has been the issue for six months.

There is big, up-front payments and profit in vaccines, not home test kits sold to the government by the billions.

Never mind that it would be some time before we knew it was really working, or might cause problems, he won't have to get it until he knows it's safe.

I hope we get a safe and effective vaccine as soon as possible. In this case I'd love to see another country beat us to it. Of course it would be in any countries best interest to have it produced world-wide immediately, but it would warm my heart to see Trump go hat in hand and beg for it.

... if you want in on the early vaccines, there are options that pay you for your potential side effects.

In my state, they're enrolling people 65+ or 18-64 who work outside the home, $1125 payment.

And there ARE going to be people who are willing to be those guinea pigs -- either they want a vaccine faster for themselves, they feel like the money is worth any potential side effects and want to help make sure it's safe, whatever.

Honestly, I'd consider enrolling in a trial if I qualified for one, because of my asthma. If I get the actual virus I'll probably deal with much worse than just potential vaccine side effects (which, for the most part, are also risks run by contracting the wild virus -- the incidence of Gullian-Barre among people who got the 1976 vaccine was probably about the same as if those same amount of vaccinated people had gotten that 1976 strain of the flu). Plus, it's money. And it's for science.

But I definitely get why they're limiting their under-65 group to people working outside the home. I probably am not getting exposed enough to be a good test subject for the vaccine's effectiveness, nor do they want to encourage people to be going out to bars to "test the vaccine"....

Trump's vaccine (which he'll take sole credit for). Fat Donnie promises that the vaccine is just around the corner, unless you vote for Biden, who wants you all to die.

Wanting the quick fix is the American way. Weight loss through hypnotism, a college degree in six months through an online "university," double your portfolio's value in just a year if you sign up for this $500 newsletter that will tell you exactly which stocks to buy.

Donald Trump is a con man. He's betting on the "quick fix" voters to get him close enough to steal the election.
