Pence to headline 'Cops for Trump' event in Pennsylvania next week

President Trump's campaign announced Saturday that Vice President Pence will host a “Cops for Trump” event Thursday in Greensburg, Pa., a state Trump flipped in 2016 by less than 1 percentage point.

Greensburg sits in Westmoreland County, an area in western Pennsylvania that went for Trump by more than 30 points in 2016. It is exactly the kind of place where the president needs to juice turnout in his bid to repeat his success of four years ago.

The event comes amid widespread protests over systemic racism and police brutality that have been ongoing since the end of May ...
The Trump administration and his campaign have sought to seize on the demonstrations, accusing protesters rallying to “defund the police” of trying to scrap law enforcement altogether in an attempt to shore up support, particularly among suburban voters.

The campaign said in a press release that Thursday’s event will “reaffirm the Trump Administration's commitment to always back the blue and condemn Joe Biden for his embrace of the far-left 'defund the police' movement.” Vice President Joe Biden has distanced himself from the “defund the police” movement, but Trump and his allies have still tried to tie him to it.

16. When Mike Wallace asked him to do it, Trump couldn't point out "defund the police" in Biden's plan.

Fat Donnie made a big deal out of having his assistant handing him Biden's thick book of plans...only to be shown to be a liar. Again. The words "defund the police" didn't appear anywhere in the document.

It reminded me of when Jon Stewart had on his show the most fervent GOP spokesperson against the ACA. She smugly set on the desk a thick document she carried everywhere, which she said contained the entire ACA. Stewart asked her where it said anything about "death panels." As she desperately flipped through the document looking for something that wasn't there, Stewart calmly said, "I'll wait..."

God, I miss Jon Stewart. He's the one I want to see interview Trump. "When no other president has ever done so, why did you feel it necessary for you to take a cognitive test? The act applies primarily to federal employees or state/local government employees whose salaries are paid for by federal funds, with a few other exceptions. That wouldn't apply to just about all local or state LEOs. I'm no lawyer, but that's my understanding of how the act would apply to these cops.

They have the same right as anyone else to attend an event for their chosen candidate, as long as they do so in accordance with whatever regulations govern their specific agencies. I imagine most are forbidden to attend such events while on duty or while in uniform, pretty much like the military.
