Arizona Democratic Party headquarters fire believed to be arson

The building near Central Avenue and Thomas Road caught on fire early Friday. No one was injured.

PHOENIX — Fire investigators now believe a Friday morning fire at the Arizona Democratic Party headquarters in Phoenix was arson.

The Phoenix Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to the building near Central Avenue and Thomas Road around 1 a.m. for reports of smoke coming from the building.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building.


Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but the Maricopa County Democratic Party's side was completely lost.

Investigators say based on the evidence at the scene, this is now an arson investigation.

This is just so sad. I’ve spent the past 20 years volunteering there, and for one brief cycle employed there. So many memories in that building. We have worked hard strengthening our party, uniting dems across the state.

I used to live in Phoenix for 5 years many years ago.. It will always be dear to my heart. I can imagine how saddened and shocked the AZ Dems were.

Like I read .. they will rise from the ashes just like the Phoenix.
