Ocasio-Cortez accosted by GOP lawmaker over remarks: 'That kind of confrontation hasn't ever happened to me'
By Mike Lillis - 07/21/20 08:45 AM EDT
Tensions flared on Capitol Hill this week when a Republican lawmaker challenged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on issues of crime and policing in an unusual and decidedly personal confrontation on the Capitol steps.
Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) was coming down the steps on the east side of the Capitol on Monday, having just voted, when he approached Ocasio-Cortez, who was ascending into the building to cast a vote of her own.
In a brief but heated exchange, which was overheard by a reporter, Yoho told Ocasio-Cortez she was "disgusting" for recently suggesting that poverty and unemployment are driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.
"You are out of your freaking mind," Yoho told her.
The two then parted ways. Ocasio-Cortez headed into the building, while Yoho, joined by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas), began descending toward the House office buildings. A few steps down, Yoho offered a parting thought to no one in particular.
"Fucking bitch," he said.........................
Ocasio-Cortez shot back, telling Yoho he was being "rude."............................

(67,782 posts)...vs. 2019, and also down in June of 2020 vs. 2019. Violent crime, which normally isn't the product of unemployment or poverty, is up.
In June 2020 total crimes were 7,839 as opposed to 8,297 in June 2019.
Plus there have been 40,000 less arrests in the first six months of 2020 vs. the first six months of 2019.

(29,322 posts)It depends on the violent crime. If it is related to organized crime then it is definitely poverty related since drug organizations are sometimes the only ones hiring.
Like I said in another thread of course there are sociopaths but rich sociopaths become politicians like Donald Trump. You know who clearly isn't a sociopath? AOC.

(905 posts)Of course, anyone bothering to do their homework by looking at what was said in committee that sparked Yohaha's mansplaining in the first place would have totally understood AOC's comments in the context of crime during the pandemic, as you so accurately pointed out.
Love your comment contrasting her to rich sociopaths like tRump; "You know who isn't a sociopath? AOC." I find this particularly delicious in light of the sheer number of old, white men who "think" just like the Orange Dotard, but lacking the money and power, have to satisfy themselves by stalking AOC online (itself a form of sociopathy and, for some, a psychopathy reaching "fantastical" levels).
What makes this all the funnier is that she continues to foil the racist misogynists at every turn! This, of course, includes her epic clapback to Yoyo-Man's "f***ing bitch" temper tantrum. AOC's response: "Bitches get stuff done." Oh, oh...yolo!
What she said.

(30 posts)Yoho represents my district in Florida. He is the demon spawn
of the Tea Party movement back in 2012. The only news I can
remember about him locally is his refusal to outlaw lynching in
a recent House bill. I'd like to know what is net worth was when
he took office and what it is now.

AOC held back with her criticism.
Yoho was condescending. Patronizing. Sexist. Misogynist. Classist. Dominating. And afraid of women.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer issued a stern condemnation of Rep. Ted Yoho after he reportedly got into a heated exchange in the Capitol with the left-wing freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that allegedly ended with Yoho uttering the words "f------ b----."
"The comments related to me were despicable," Hoyer, D-Md., said. "Unacceptable. Mr. Yoho owes not only the Congresswoman an apology, but an apology on the floor of the House."..................
