More Than 1/2 of America Is Now on NY Quarantine List; 10 New States Added Tuesday

Source: WNBC News

More than half of America is now on the tri-state quarantine list, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday, as COVID continues to surge virtually unabated across the country. A total of 31 states are now on the list, with 10 added and one removed.

The newcomers are Alaska, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Virginia, and Washington. Minnesota came off the list this week, no longer meeting the hotspot threshold. It could return just as easily though; Delaware only spent a week off the list before its numbers rose again.

Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont jointly implemented the restricted travel list last month in an effort to ward off local COVID resurgence. It applies to states that exceed 10 percent daily test positivity rates or 10 new cases per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling period.

Apart from the new additions, the other states on the quarantine list currently include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin.

this was lumped in with NY & Conn in news reports making it look like they exempted workers too.

...this is not like the Europe travel ban. This applies to anyone arriving from the restricted States EXCEPT:

The requirements of the travel advisory do not apply to any individual passing through designated states for a limited duration (i.e., less than 24 hours) through the course of travel.

with cases surging despite same phased opening as NY and NJ, plus a Democratic Governor.

Don't need to fly on a plane to cross into NY or NJ. Besides the young bar crowd, it is Summer and people are having their BBQ's with extended family and neighbors with no masks or social distancing. Impossible to control that.

Earlier on here in NEPA, we had signs all over over highways, "NYC Travelers must quarantine for 14 days". Think highway patrol were stopping cars with NY Plates asking WHERE in NY they came from, let alone stopping PA cars asking where they had traveled to?

During this time, my husband and a friend crossed into Liberty, NY, had lunch, and drove back. You cannot seal off one state from another. Even Cuomo himself has said it is impossible to enforce with cars.

You are talking about Martial Law being declared. Governors cannot do that.

Either NY and NJ seal their borders or it’s coming north. I’ve noticed more cars in MI lately from GA and TX. I wish we would put a damper on that from happening. Checkpoints at our border with IN and OH.

...is New Lamont. We were supposed to have bars reopened last week, but with all the other states having huge increases in cases he decided to wait for the bars to open.

We probably have the best rate of new cases in the country. We now have only 56 people hospitalized.

contained at its point of outbreak - as ebola usually is - it would have gone extinct. Now it seems we'll be going from the frying pan into the fire as flu season approaches in the fall. We could probably get it contained, even at this point, if we had a 100% nationwide adherence to safety precautions and lockdowns in hot spots. Sadly, we have fools holding Covid parties (and then dying) so we're paying a big price for ignorance.
