St. Louis prosecutor investigating couple who pointed guns at protesters says Trump, governor "came after" her

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner said late Tuesday that Missouri's governor and President Donald Trump "came after" her for investigating a couple who displayed guns as they defended their home during a racial injustice protest. Gardner made the comment after Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said the president told him he was concerned about the possibility that the couple could face criminal charges.

Parson told reporters Tuesday that he had just been on the phone with Mr. Trump and U.S. Attorney General William Barr. The phone call came amid reports that Gardner, a Democrat, may file charges against Mark and Patricia McCloskey, both of them lawyers in their 60s. The couple wielded guns on June 28 as protesters marched by their Renaissance palazzo-style mansion on the way to the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson.

A police report said the couple heard a loud commotion and saw a large group of people break an iron gate marked with "No Trespassing" and "Private Street" signs.

"It is unbelievable the Governor of the state of Missouri would seek advice from one of the most divisive leaders in our generation to overpower the discretion of a locally elected prosecutor," Gardner said, adding that "It is also incredible that at a time when our nation is dealing with a rapidly spreading deadly virus and our State reported a record number of new infections, they are launching these dog-whistle attacks against me."

ironically, the black athletes on those teams are used to excuse racism and attack BLM. since trump is a fan he probably got the idea to intimidate the prosecutor from limbaugh. limbaugh regularly intimidates/mentions judges that do or might do the right thing instead of serve republicans

limbaugh led the attacks on kaepernick and kneeling protestors. in this case i will bet anything that limbaugh used this episode to attack BLM, again, and probably again got to call the protestors "maggot infested" "marxist communists"

Bullshit, call it what it is......a military assault weapon............

If a black person even THOUGHT of doing what those two Trumphumpers did, they would be dead with tens of police bullet holes in each of them.

Pointing a weapon at another individual, especially a loaded weapon is a serious crime. Being defense lawyers, the couple should know that even more than a normal citizen.

I would hope that every sane person in the U.S. is getting really fed up with this bullshit. AND the fact that Trump/Republicons are not only condoning that behavior, but inciting them to do it.

I am dreading the future months in the U.S.. This shit is going to get out of control. There is no way this can have a good ending... Putin must be doubled over laughing 24/7. Ordering Trump to encourage an insurrection in the U.S. , having his lap dog Trump and RepubliCON controlled Senate as well as AG BARR going all in on the Treasonous Act, and the entire RepubliCON party and voters behind all of them, every step of the way. Holy Jesus, Mother Fucking, Christ. And every single day, the entire group of RepubliCONs keep escalating the whole mess they have single handedly created.........

I have this constant feeling of being trapped in an unending nightmare combination of Alice and Wonderland, and the Twilight Zone.......

Three cheers to our hero St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gardner for standing her ground. Her statement is spot-on!

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner struck back at President Donald Trump and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) on Tuesday night after both attacked her for investigating the St. Louis couple that brandished their guns at protesters outside their home last month.

“Today, both the Governor and Donald Trump came after me for doing my job and investigating a case,” Gardner said in a written statement. “While they continue to play politics with the handling of this matter, spreading misinformation and distorting the truth, I refuse to do so.”

She also slammed Parson for speaking to Trump about her probe, saying it was “unbelievable” that the governor “would seek advice from one of the most divisive leaders in our generation to overpower the discretion of a locally elected prosector [sic].”

Allison Hawk, Gardner’s spokesperson, declined to tell TPM on Wednesday whether anyone in the Trump administration had contacted the prosecutor about her investigation into Mark and Patricia McCloskey, who pointed their firearms at the anti-police brutality protesters near their house who were peacefully marching toward the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson.
