Trump adviser knocks Fauci: Wrong about 'everything'
Source: The Hill
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Tuesday sharply criticized Anthony Fauci, the nations leading infectious disease expert and a key member of the administration's coronavirus task force.
In an op-ed published in USA Today, Navarro asserted that Fauci was wrong about everything I have interacted with him on.

Fauci and other public health officials have advocated for a more cautious approach to reopening the country following shutdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic, advice that administration and state leaders haven't completely followed.
Trump and his economic advisers have called for reopening measures, despite surging cases in numerous states across the country, with record cases reported in the South and Southwest in recent weeks.

The White House is continuing its campaign to discredit health officials and scientists in its efforts to try to aggressively reopen even as the pandemic continues to spread. Of course, these partisan messages only serve to makes things worse. Even in California, you have right wing officials and activists targeting and scapegoating public health officials in order to try to make them resign or to silence their warnings.
The rapid growth of COVID-19 cases illustrates the disastrous impact of the Republican approach to problems, which is to simply find a scapegoat, rather than to seek solutions.

(CNN)During a live public briefing on Facebook last month, "someone very casually suggested" the Los Angeles County's public health director should be shot, the director said.
"I didn't immediately see the message, but my husband did, my children did, and so did my colleagues," Dr. Barbara Ferrer said Monday in a statement.
It's just one of the many threats of violence public health workers are facing across the nation "on a regular basis" as the Covid-19 pandemic rages on, Ferrer said.
Whether it's advising people to avoid large groups or encouraging people to wear face coverings in public, health officials -- both at the local and federal level -- have spent the last few months updating Americans on how to remain safe during the pandemic and avoid spreading the virus.

(11,989 posts)As with some other messages from the administration, the perspective is, as long as you don't die, it doesn't matter (or "harmless" to that 99% as Trump said). A lower mortality rate is not enough to say we're safe, if poeople are still experiencing terrible illness requiring hospitalization, and having permanent heart or lung damage.

(83,786 posts)Republicans have become rapid animals stuck in a corner. They want their economy and they want power and will do anything to keep that . Americans are already dying by the hundreds of thousands and then after that number all that will die of homelessness starvation.

(21,046 posts)They can't understand reason and science or else are willfully ignorant, so they attack experts. Anti-intellectualism has been around a LONG time. So sad that they are trying to destroy Dr. Fauci and everyone else telling the truth.

(20,583 posts)this quote from Wiki reminds me of trump calling radio stations as John Baron etc.
"In six of his books about China, Navarro quotes a "Ron Vara", whom he describes as a China hawk and former Harvard PhD doctoral student in economics, and who says Sinophobic things about China and the Chinese. An investigation by the Chronicle of Higher Education found that no such person existed, and that Ron Vara (an anagram of Navarro) appeared to represent views that Navarro himself held.[106][107] Navarro has admitted to making up the character, an author surrogate, and quoting him in his books. Economist Glenn Hubbard, who co-authored Seeds of Destruction with Navarro,[108] has said he was not aware that Vara was fictional, and that he did not approve of Navarro attributing information to a fictional source.[109] In December 2019, a memo apparently authored by Ron Vara began circulating in Washington DC. The memo highlighted the "Keep Tariff Argument" and the use of tariffs against China a few days before an additional 15% tariff on $160 billion of Chinese made goods was set to be implemented. Navarro later confirmed that he had written the memo.[110]

(43,176 posts)Kudlow, Navarro, Ross, Conway, Manafort, Guiliani. It just seems like an ongoing putsch by people in suits, assaulting truth, process, tradition, reality.
The rest of the GOP are silent because .... ??? compromised? beholden? or they just agree with everything he's done because they got to trash the environment, make money from it, suspend secular political rule with theocratic judges, and they got their tax cuts.
They got everything they wanted. That's why they say nothing.

(2,566 posts)And Dr. Birx, whom I actually defended in the beginning (kicking myself) is recommending the National Guard be deployed to do DATA ENTRY, while cutting the Center for DISEASE CONTROL out of the picture. Again. Again I think, "This can't be happening," knowing that it will only get worse.
GOTV.

(950 posts)Fauci has been right on MOST everything so far. He did tell people they didn't need masks at the beginning. Fauci said "He told people they didn't need masks, only because of the shortage of PPE for healthcare workers." He admitted it. His heart was in the right place, but it was wrong of him. IMO it hurts his credibility, with some people, and it can be used to undermine his current message. It's unfortunate he did that.
