Jeff Sessions loses comeback bid in Alabama runoff

Source: The Hill

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions failed in his bid to reclaim his old Senate seat after losing to former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville in the Alabama GOP runoff on Tuesday.

Tuberville was leading Sessions by 63 percent to 37 percent, with 35 percent of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press.

The former football coach will go on to face Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) in November. Jones is considered the most vulnerable Democrat facing reelection in 2020 in a race The Cook Political Report rates as "Leans Republican."

It means Sessions did not get enough votes for a recount call.
It means the Republican establishment here sent a message to Sessions and his supporters.

The message to Tuberville is not that he won the primary, but that he did not lose it by the votes of those who have just told Sessions it's time for him to retire to the veranda and rocking chair, at least till after Nov. decides everyone's fate.

The results also show that writing Doug Jones off would be a mistake.

I'm thrilled that the "World's Smallest Living Confederate Monument" has been dethroned.

Finally, everyone is paying attention.

Pity it took such complacency that allowed a disaster like Trump, to motivate Americans to stop taking their Democratic Republic for granted.

Never again.

Doug Jones just might have a fighting chance. Although at this pount, in this state, it's probably a long shot.

But even if he doesn't I think our chances of taking back the Senate are increasing. Doug appears to be our only vulnerable member, whereas there are several Republican in the vulnerable category.

It is very similar to the race that put Jones there to begin with. Trump squashes what would be an easy win for a regular republican by supporting a flawed candidate in the primary. I also agree that Jones is still the underdog. Pardon the pun, but it would be like Auburn beating Alabama 2 years in a row. Then again, the score and down and distance are the same.

In this year of protest over the treatment of AfAms, this case alone should be sufficient motivation for minorities, and everyone else who supports racial equality, to vote in record numbers for Jones.

I think that Pence is the ultimate presidential blow jobber, but Jeff Sessions was a very close 2nd.
Perhaps the knife in the back from Trump will prompt Sessions to explain his meetings with the Russians during the campaign.
