Judge: Bolton can publish book despite efforts to block it
Source: AP
A federal judge ruled Saturday that former national security adviser John Bolton can move forward in publishing his tell-all book despite efforts by the Trump administration to block the release because of concerns that classified information could be exposed.
The decision from U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth is a victory for Bolton in a court case that involved core First Amendment and national security concerns. But the judge also made clear his concerns that Bolton had gambled with the national security of the United States by opting out of a prepublication review process meant to prevent government officials from spilling classified secrets in memoirs they publish.
The ruling clears the path for a broader election-year readership and distribution of a memoir, due out Tuesday, that paints an unflattering portrait of President Donald Trumps foreign policy decision-making during the turbulent year-and-a-half that Bolton spent in the White House.
Nonethless, Lamberth frowned upon the way Bolton went about publishing the book. Bolton took it upon himself to publish his book without securing final approval from national intelligence authorities and perhaps caused irreparable harm to national security, Lamberth said.

(5,771 posts)... his ruling was simply that there is no practice way to remedy the harm that, he seems to believe, has already been done.
We have a ways to go as yet. But at least we will be able to judge for ourselves.

(2,227 posts)And it just gives the turd more ammunition to appeal to the barely adequates (formerly The Supremes). He can now point to a JUDGE that has agreed that Bolten released confidential information that caused irreparable harm to national security. So what if the book is out, he can still go after the $$$. THAT is what he is after. He is padding the "escape" fund as we speak.
WHY do they keep throwing bones to the turd. (Like Justice Roberts telling the turd EXACTLY how to re-file the DACA appeal so he can vote FOR it...) They KNOW he will pursue them.

(65,180 posts)If judges start blocking books, we arent far from Fahrenheit 451 territory. I will hear about the book on DU and other liberal places since hes too slimy for me to support by buying.

(5,771 posts)... the judge is NOT a first amendment purist. He seems to believe that the book does contain classified information and that Bolton did break his prepublication review agreement with the government. Hiss ruling against the requested injunction was simply that it was too late and would do no good.
