Live updates: CDC suggests organizers of large gatherings 'strongly encourage' use of face masks
Source: Washington Post
Federal health officials on Friday urged organizers of large gatherings that involve shouting, chanting or singing to strongly encourage the use of cloth face coverings to lower the risk of spreading the coronavirus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said its guidance does not directly apply to national protests against police brutality or the upcoming Republican National Convention, but said the guidelines speak for themselves.
It also offered a variety of other suggestions as normal activities resume, in addition to accepted measures such as hand-washing, wearing face coverings, and keeping six feet apart.

(15,981 posts)Six feet and no more then 10 people in a group outside is no longer a problem? Thats great news as weve been doing these goofy drive way parties where we set up chairs and bring our own food and drinks and talk to the neighbors which is more then six feet but works. But if those rules are lifted, itd be nice to move it to the backyard again.

Or they say protest is a good reason. So if this was about saving the elderly and immunocompromised I guess that a protest is a reason to risk killing your grandma or Aunt Amy.

There is a lot we DON'T know about this virus, but two things we know unequivocally are that 1) the virus never went away, and in many places is picking up steam and 2) we haven't seen the last of it, and given the political climate, it is likely to be much worse when it comes back.

(12,618 posts)And I'm still wearing my mask whenever I go into some place with people. Its not a big deal & I dont know why some people have such an issue with it, other than obstinance. I dont wear it getting gas or stuff like that. But I DO have plenty of hand sanitizer. Which I've always had in my car anyway.
I've looked to this period we're in right now as the first test. Its been over 14 days since Memorial Day, so will those numbers go way up because of that? Because people went out for sure. Right now it looks like its not. And the NEXT two weeks will be the next timeframe I look at. A lot of people close together doing street protests; if that causes more sick folks, it'll show up around the 20-24th.
Also, I was in a group of about 35 1 week ago. We'll see if anyone gets sick from that. I'm hoping for the best from all these examples. Personally, I look at the hospitalizations a lot closer than the number of cases.
And I hope for a RELIABLE antibody test. I'll take it if they get one. Many of my friends have said the same. We'd all like to know; have we already had it or been exposed?
