Union talks stalled; Easton firefighters file unfair labor practice complaint

Source: Taunton Daily Gazette

By Susan Parkou Weinstein

Easton —

The Easton firefighters union has filed a complaint against the town alleging unfair labor practices and bringing contract talks to a standstill.

In an April 30 complaint of prohibitive practice to the state Department of Labor Relations (DOLR), the Easton Firefighters Association charged Town Administrator David Colton with breaching negotiating ground rules by commenting about the talks on the community blog "Eastonmass.com."

The union claims those rules, signed on April 10, required both parties to refrain from publicly discussing the substance of the negotiations unless one side files for mediation.

But a week later, Colton responded to a question posed by a blogger who asked if he would take the same zero percent pay raise he sought from the unions.
