Trump tweets clip of 'Independence Day' with himself, allies edited in
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Saturday posted a heavily doctored clip from the 1996 movie "Independence Day" featuring himself as Bill Pullman's character delivering a motivational speech to GOP allies, who were also photoshopped into the video.
Charlie Kirk from Turning Point USA, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity from Fox News, and several other Republican allies can be seen gawking at Trump's "speech," which is actually Pullman's monologue from the film.
The video was created by Twitter meme account Mad Liberals, an account dedicated to creating memes for Trump and other GOP figures.

The video edit hit a relevant note, as the creator likened Trump's motivation to reopen the country to the following line in Pullman's speech: "And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday but as the day the world declared in one voice, 'We will not go quietly into the night!'"

(9,426 posts)a president. He is a disgrace. Is making this pile of crap what he was doing instead of making sure medical workers has enough PPE's? So, HE was the cream of the gop crop that they chose to be their leader? What a disaster, he thinks he is a reality TV "star".

But when he takes a closer look at the brass, the reflection staring back at him is that

(1,429 posts)can the producers of the film Independence Day sue Trump and the GOP for? Every film has that statement at the end of the credits about "All Rights Reserved under penalty of law!

I had a long discussion with someone on FB about this. He apparently works with media law. He said it was parody and therefore no cause to sue. I assured him that the definition of parody was comic and this certainly was not intended to be funny. He assured me it was protected use. I pretty much said the law should be inline with the actual definition.

(58,785 posts)Reminds me yet again that today's Republicans don't have even one semi-great leader they can point to as their own. Sure, they claim Lincoln for lack of anything else, but he and the new Republican Party were the very antithesis of today's Republicans, and underneath most must know it. They invoke Lincoln's name but reject him. And now Bill Pullman's movie character.
Btw, down here in the deep south most conservatives do not know that the ruling classes didn't allow Lincoln's name on the ballots of almost all states, with most of their great-grandparents' loyally cheering that denial of their own rights. Cons of those days didn't like Lincoln at all, and southern cons were rabid on the subject.
