New York barber cutting hair 'illicitly' during lockdown tests positive for coronavirus

Source: NBC

A barber who continued to cut hair at a shop in New York over the past few weeks in violation of the state's stay-at-home order has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the Ulster County Department of Health and Mental Health.

In a statement Wednesday, the county health commissioner advised anyone who received a haircut in the past three weeks at a barbershop on Broadway in the city of Kingston, about 20 miles north of Poughkeepsie, to seek testing for the coronavirus. The statement did not identify either the barber or the shop.

Nonessential businesses have been closed since March 22 under an order issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that is set to expire Friday, when certain parts of the state that have met public health metrics will be allowed to begin a phased reopening.

Under the order, barbershops, beauty salons, nail salons and other businesses that provide personal care services are not allowed to be open and operated to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

people now too scared to ever go back to this place or state authorities, etc. permanently shut the doors to this business for ignoring their edicts made for the public good? I suspect also, some of these exposed people might in turn sue the shop for unsafe conditions?

It would make about as much sense as going to a barber during a pandemic, but I can see people doing it.

So many entitled, self-centered people in this country. When I think of what our ancestors endured over the last few centuries, it is appalling to hear people whine because they can't eat at a restaurant or get their nails done or go shopping. It is like watching a bunch of spoiled teenagers throwing tantrums because they've been grounded.

orders. Ridiculous that they are so worried about their haircuts, nails, massages, etc., vs. lives at stake. These idiots protesting seem to forget that all of us are staying at home and also, they only represent a tiny fraction of all voters, e.g., 5% (w/ the vast majority of us agreeing w/ us to stay home).

It looks like the rump republicans are searching for issue(s)/mud to sling at Biden and others, for the upcoming November 2020 elections.

Being that they don't have data and science on their side, they are obviously desperate for any kind of negative issue(s) to stick.

Be safe!

when I wished I could spend more time at home, I wonder why some people can't relax and count their blessings. If they have food, shelter, the Internet, television, etc., they should be grateful. Not everyone is so fortunate.

Sometimes I wonder if things like haircuts or manicures are what these people want. Maybe they just hate being told "no". Once again, like spoiled teenagers.

Thoughts and prayers. Deep state hoax. Owning libs. At least he did his part to not letting libs hurt trump. Maybe he should sue Fox. No concern for his family, or customers. Maybe armed Militia should have stood outside to protect him. Another death To be on trump and fox.

What makes him more desperate than another barber who was abiding by the stay closed order?

Fuck Him. Hopefully the business suffers or goes under, even if he doesn't.

Multiples times, in multiple ways, so ... I may be more forgiving of that particular transgression than most

And for all I know, he WAS more desperate than another barber.

I'd also mention that with a competent administration, nobody would be in such a truly desperate position.

I'm not saying he did nothing wrong, but I'm not going to heap scorn on him w/o knowing the reason(s) for that decision. It may be once I know them, that I literally hope the guy kicks it. Alone, in his dingy apartment.

You're free to feel differently, of course

from your actions? That's the diff with shit like this. It would be one thing if the guy broke the law and only harmed himself but this could end up with multiple deaths.

Of course those fat boy, AR-15 toting Trump ass kissers who block ambulances and shout and protest to open the Country can never get the "others could die" part in their head.

No way is it safe. Not now and not in a few weeks. I work in the field and do not see any safe way to return to work. Salons shouldn't be opened until the last stage.

All these feel-good measures such as taking temperatures do nothing for safety. Not doing it. I have vulnerable people in my life. I couldn't live with myself if I were to bring it home to them.

It’s a difficult decision but you’re right in that the measures put forth don’t do much at all to protect anyone. I dearly love the gal that’s done my hair for the past 20 years. She helps out a lot with her grands (as do I) and thinking that I was in any way responsible for bringing harm to either of our families is more than I could bear. I’m wondering about buying gift certificates from her now for services much later.
