Coronavirus testing per capita: Studies show US is far from the world's leader

Source: MSN

Two giant signs at a White House press conference amplified a claim that President Donald Trump consistently makes:

"AMERICA LEADS THE WORLD IN TESTING"

"We've prevailed on testing," Trump said Monday, standing between the signs.

While the US may have performed the most number of coronavirus tests, it's nowhere near the world's leader in testing per capita, multiple studies show. And health experts say the US isn't close to the rate of testing needed to safely reopen the economy.

Of decent size countries, Iceland leads with about 160k tests per million people.

Followed by UAE with about 151k and Bahrain with 116k per million.

We're way way down on the list, behind ...

Denmark 57k
Russia 40k
Norway 38k
...
Finally the US is at about 30k tests per million people. (*)

So ... just under 1/5 the rate per capita of the actual world leader in testing.

I guess we're supposed to be thankful we have any tests at all.

But yet the deplorables lap it up. When they hear the press talk about per-capita, they immediately turn it off because
they think they are talking about state capitals of which they could not name their own (including Trump).

By May 12, the US had conducted about 9.6 million tests, according to the COVID Tracking Project.

As of May 11, the US has performed an average of 28.24 tests per 1,000 people, according to researchers from Oxford University.

The Harvard Global Health Institute said the US should be testing at least 900,000 people a day by May 15.

The independent data aggregation site Worldometer said the US had the highest raw number of tests completed as of May 12. But at the same time, the site's data showed, more than 30 countries were ranked higher than the US in per capita testing.

As of April 26, the US ranked 22nd in the number of tests performed per capita, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
