CNN Poll: Negative ratings for government handling of coronavirus persist

Source: CNN

(CNN)Most Americans (54%) continue to say the US government is doing a poor job preventing the spread of Covid-19, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.

And, while a growing share of the public feels the worst of the outbreak is behind us (44%, up from 17% in April), a majority (52%) still sees the worst on the horizon.
Four-in-10 Americans say that they personally know someone who has been diagnosed with coronavirus, a figure that has nearly doubled in the last month. And most say the government is not doing enough to address the growing death toll (56%), the limited availability of testing (57%) or the potential for a second wave of cases later this year (58%).
The new poll finds President Donald Trump's overall approval rating holding about even at 45%. His rating now matches his high point in CNN polling dating back to the start of his term.

The death toll is staggering, and bound to get worse. How can so many people be blind to the fact that he is a madman with blood on his hands?

Who are they polling? No one has ever asked me!

The most recent polls on 538 (the poll above is not in their aggregate) show somewhat similar values.
The aggregate is 43.5% but he's underwater on all of them, by 2 to 8%.

They support his racism and lies because that is where they live too. I still don't get the other 20%
but I expect them to bleed away from their support over the next few months. We are closing in on
100,000 dead, 1.5 million cases of C-19, and a great depression so if we have a clean election Trump
should lose every state (forget Oklahoma they are brain damaged) and in many cases by double digits.

Lock him up.

They’re far too high because he should have no more than 20% support from the right wingers who just believe all his crap. So who are those other 25%? I think of the protesters in Michigan and Virginia and other states. They aren’t poor, or at least they have enough money to spend thousands of dollars on assault weapons. They’re Republicans because of guns. And there are other groups that Republican only. Here’s my list, which I’m sure isn’t comprehensive.

1. White evangelicals—they love Trump because of anti-abortion, anti-gay judges
2. Civilian militias—they love Trump because many of them are anti-government and he is deconstructing our government before our eyes, plus guns
3. White nationalists—these people overlap some with the militias but not completely; they love Trump because he calls them good people and they see his racist policies supporting their goals
4. Anti-immigrants—this group wants to deport every single undocumented person in the country and they love Trump especially for his hatred of brown and black migrants
5. Hidden supporters—this group may be larger than we imagine because it contains a diverse group; among them are conservative white parents who want segregated charter schools so their children do not have to go to schools with other races, high earners who primarily want low taxes and high returns on their investments and don’t care about anything else, and the truly wealthy who know that their taxes will increase and their power decrease under Democrats
6. The low-educated, low information group—most would be Fox News and hate radio consumers; I think of these as being different from other groups because they are often men, though some women, who do not have good jobs and have unsuccessful lives; primarily rural

Polls probably don’t even reach some of these people, but I would think they reach at least the first five groups.

Because they have to be misinformed in order to explain Trump's standing in the polls. And not enough fact checking of Trump on other networks to properly frame the conditions in America today. They sure aren't indicating they think Trump has been a "catastrophic, chaotic disaster" when that could even be an understatement.

Fox News and not Fox News need each other to whine/compare?

I don't consume any of it any more, my living room TV is for Blu-Rays and second screen for a laptop, and typing this on it, right now.

Cut the cord 5 years ago.

Prefer old school news reporting what has come through the AP Wire and no interpretations, form your opinion?

Lazy Americans even outsourcing their views?

The stat that will sink Trump, showing clearly that his response to the pandemic has been a "chaotic disaster," as Obama termed it, is a comparison of the results of the world's response compared to ours. Basically, with 4% of the population we've had over 25% of the deaths.

"Good job, Brownie!"
