Opening America again will 'lead to needless suffering and death': Fauci

Source: The Age

Washington: Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert and a central figure in the government's response to the coronavirus, plans to deliver a stark warning to the Senate: Americans would experience "needless suffering and death" if the country opens up prematurely.

Fauci, who has emerged as perhaps the nation's most respected voice during the coronavirus crisis, is one of four top government doctors scheduled to testify remotely at a high-profile — and highly unusual — hearing Tuesday, US eastern standard time, before the Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

Tuesday's hearing will be his first appearance before Congress since President Donald Trump declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency on March 13, and a chance for him to address lawmakers and the public without Trump by his side. He is currently in a "modified quarantine," he has said, after a "low risk" exposure to someone infected with the virus.

He will testify remotely Tuesday. In the email sent to the New York Times late Monday night, he laid out what he intends to say.

"The major message that I wish to convey to the Senate HLP committee tomorrow is the danger of trying to open the country prematurely," he wrote. "If we skip over the checkpoints in the guidelines to 'Open America Again', then we risk the danger of multiple outbreaks throughout the country. This will not only result in needless suffering and death, but would actually set us back on our quest to return to normal."

Because he's desperate after failing so badly with everything he's doing, and knowing he will soon be getting exposed for his taxes and with the full Mueller report getting out. He could care less about the safety and welfare and health of the American people. He will get worse , and escalate more trying to hurt others , including his own supporters.

Should that be:

Opening America again will 'lead to MORE needless suffering and death' ??

Open up, and add wave 2 deaths to the deaths caused by inept responses to wave 1. Wave 3: rinse and repeat.

But it's the economy - need to open up, let the virus do it's thing!

I hear the European economy did really well during, and just after, the Black Death epidemic. It only went for 4 years, at it's peak, 1347 to 1351, and only killed 75–200 million people in Eurasia and North Africa.

I'm sure the economies of those places weren't affected in the slightest! /sarcasm intended.

But Trump is stuffed either way. His current bad virus response record speaks for itself, and the effect on the economy will be felt long after the virus fades from the scene. (Fading with the aid of a vaccine, preferably.)

By November, the full aftershock on the economy will be very evident. People will vote and disgruntled voters are very unpredictable.

Let us pray to St Fauci that things turn out better than the current situation predicts.

5. Look what Fauci has had to resort to. He was blocked from speaking to the House of Representatives

because 45 is afraid that the Democratic Party is going to get him to say something against the administration, so how does he protect his speech in front of the Senate? He has it published overnight the night before, in foreign newspapers, so we can read about it in the morning (or like me, overnight) and no matter what happens in the Senate he's gotten the word out. It's really quite amazing what 45's people have to resort to in order to inform the US of their thoughts. I can't wait to read 45's morning dump tweets about what Fauci's told us so far.

unless some other catastrophe intervenes, which under this president is a huge possibility.

Which GOP senator will dare attack this scientist? How will that go down?
