Businesses Seek Sweeping Shield From Coronavirus Liability Before They Reopen

Source: New York Times

WASHINGTON — Business lobbyists and executives are pushing the Trump administration and Congress to shield American companies from a wide range of potential lawsuits related to reopening the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic, opening a new legal and political fight over how the nation deals with the fallout from Covid-19.

Government officials are beginning the slow process of lifting restrictions on economic activity in states and local areas across the country. But lobbyists say retailers, manufacturers, eateries and other businesses will struggle to start back up if lawmakers do not place temporary limits on legal liability in areas including worker privacy, employment discrimination and product manufacturing.

The biggest push, business groups say, is to give companies enhanced protection against lawsuits by customers or employees who contract the virus and accuse the business of being the source of the infection.

The effort highlights a core tension for as the economy begins to reopen: how to give businesses the confidence they need to restart operations amid swirling uncertainty over the virus and its effects, while also protecting workers and customers from unsafe practices that could raise the chances of infection.

This is why they want control. This is why Fox brainwashed the working class using race. It is all about no liability, work them into the ground.

3. Use "Re-insurance" instead of NO liability. Gov't picks up the tab for any damages over amount.

Define a certain amount and the gov't picks up anything over that. That makes insurance affordable, assures that legit claims get paid, and doesn't expose a business to something that would bankrupt them. It ensures that the business has exposure to consequences for bad behavior.

It's a common concept in insurance where a "re-insurer" bundles together many different entities and for an affordable price picks up the overage.

It might also work for healthcare but that's another story.

People aren't stupid. They are naked and exposed in this pandemic. Those who can operate at home, maybe have a little side gig to carry the bills month over month, they're going to give serious consideration to staying put.

in exchange for another aid package (including state aid), and possibly post office. Trump really wants PO reform though, so we will see.

trump and the gop are openly showing their intent, knowing many will be hurt from them doing this . Prevent any litigation, and prevent any more checks coming forcing people to starve or return to work without adequate testing, and safety precautions. This is criminal , and many will boycott them, and these businesses. This will backfire and become a campaign issue against them.
