Schumer calls for hearings on Trump's 'abject failure at implementing' coronavirus relief

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday blasted the Trump administration for failing to properly implement the four coronavirus relief packages passed by Congress, saying he would call on the Senate to begin oversight hearings next week.
This administration has been an abject failure at implementing most of these laws, Schumer said on MSNBCs Morning Joe on Tuesday, asserting the administration doesnt have the necessary qualified personnel and focus.
All too often it seems the presidents ego is at stake, he added.
Schumer announced that he and other Senate Democrats will send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) demanding Senate oversight hearings for the first four coronavirus relief bills passed by Congress, including the $2.2 trillion CARES Act.

(6,933 posts)As urgently as an after-action report is needed, we still dont know the damage from the delays, propaganda, and fraud.
Starting an investigation now is a tacit signal the pandemic is over, thats all there is (to investigate). In a legal sense, it means no such thing. But forcing an investigation will frame the issue differently, and shine the bright light away from the whole unfolding disaster.
A limited investigation, say, into discovering how early Trump ignored dire warnings is the type of inquiry that can happen now. Because the damaging delay part of the event is past.
But dont fall into the trap of judging the entire pandemic impact while in the middle of a pandemic.

(6,831 posts)I think we all want to see him held accountable for his abysmal failure of leadership. But, yes, it IS too early. Where will we be in a month, two months, end of summer ? We need to have ALL of his incompetence on full view, and he isn't done. Not by a long shot.
