Newsom chides California beachgoers: 'We can't see images like we saw'
Source: politico
OAKLAND Gov. Gavin Newsom chided Californians who flocked to beaches over the weekend, saying they could delay an otherwise imminent start to reopening the economy.
We cant see images like we saw, particularly on Saturday, in Newport Beach and elsewhere, Newsom told reporters, adding that coronavirus doesn't go home because it's a beautiful sunny day around our coasts. Flattening rates of infection and death have California poised to begin lifting restrictions on social activity and economic life. Newsom said Monday that the state is weeks, not months" away from relief in the form of meaningful modifications to the states stay-at-home order. But he warned that backsliding on social distancing could undermine that goal.
The only thing that will set us back is our behavior, Newsom said, adding that the only thing that can stop that is more images like we saw this weekend.
The governor noted that officials in coastal Orange County were looking at augmentations to limits on beach use and he suggested the California Highway Patrol could avail ourselves to more aggressive enforcement.

people won't give a shit.
a $500 ticket and citing them with "putting the public welfare in danger" going on a permanent record would probably have more of an impact.

(36,081 posts)He did his duty by saying something, but I don't think he is that worried about it. You can maintain safe distance on a beach, and those who don't are likely not being that careful in other places.

(6,593 posts)the virus is coated in fat, and the hot beach environment will melt the fat and kill the virus while it's inside of you. Scariest of all - he's got a Masters degree in Science and taught it in high school for 25 years. Thank goodness the fool is retired.

Apparently, he was not a Biology major.
I suppose one could reasonably speculate that the heat might kill the virus BEFORE it gets in you, but once its in you ... nah.

(6,593 posts)I never went to college but even I know better than that. Just like shitler though, these trumpanzees think they know everything - and there's no point in trying to educate them.
A few years ago I commented how glorious the Milky Way looked on the previous night and he immediately shot back with a laughing dismissal: "We're in the Milky Way - you can't see it from where we are!"
Sigh... all you can do is walk away from these people.

110-115 F is where we start feeling pain from things like hot metal and hot water. Our perception to pain, like pitch and volume, aren't linear.

(3,051 posts)Transmission outside, in the Sun, and the wind is highly unlikely.
Assuming people dont pack themselves together like sardines, there is zero danger here.
Now, if it is a crowded mess and there are choke points, thats a different ball of wax.
But hanging out on the beach reasonably spaced is about as low risk as things get.
